Created in the fires of Skyforge by a Gray-Mane many generations ago for the High King of Skyrim, this broken blade is but a shard of its former glory.
That's a little backstory I came up with, just for fun. The actual in-game item comes from a mod by Aardus, entitled "Broken Steel Weapon," (click the orange text to go to the pages). The mod adds what is an un-usable item in the vanilla game, the "Broken Steel Sword Handle," to the crafting list as a weapon that can actually be used, upgraded, and enchanted. Very neat little mod, adds a lot of interesting options to explore in the game. Is this an ancient sword that has been broken and forgotten, until you found it, and brought it back into battle? Is it the result of your early, inexperienced attempts at blade-smithing that serves as a humbling reminder of your beginnings? Perhaps it is the very hilt of the legendary Narsil itself? Or maybe, as Aardus himself suggests, it is just a broken sword someone scavenged from a battlefield, and it is all your poor soul could afford? The possibilities are near limitless.
