The way you write just draws you in and makes you think, your use of metaphors is amazing.
If you are not a professional writer you should really consider it. And your gorgeous imagery is icing on the cake! So happy you came back as your work is always a pleasure!

Don't even know what to say. Hands down you are one of the most eloquent and well-written writer I have seen online in this type of venue. You are word-smithing at its finest and reading your work is like reading something from the NYT list in a world of fantasy.

I wanted to pick out some lines that were my favorite but there are so many. Just so many wonderful examples of words and phrases that delight the mind and tease one's thoughts like a playful imp dancing on ones neurons. So I will just pick one that gives an example:

"... surrounded by a tiny fortress made of goblets and barrels of mead and wine."

There is just so much in that simple sentence. Cute and sad at the same time this simple sentence says so much. Of a poor Bosmer terrified who is trying to hide behind his work, totally focused on doing his "job" and praying he won't get caught. A "tiny" fortress - not a big strong fortress, but a make believe one made of goblets and barrels of mead and wine.

I just ... well I am fascinated with how your mind is able to come up with such great imagery and emotions (and humor at times) in your writing.

I know I have not talked about the actual content of the story - that is partly because I know it very well. It is the way you re-shape it with your wonderful writing that makes it so amazing to me. I so enjoyed the way you described the tension between the two women (Saga and Delphine) - it was just wonderful. I don't know what else to say really. I just really like your writing.

However I admit Saga really confuses me. I know Sithis (in Lore) isn't really evil - he is more a concept of the the void, of limitations - of which death is the ultimate limiter. Yet the DB worships that darker side that humans see as evil. It is true death comes to all and no one should judge how one dies ... yet murdering people for gold is such a callous disregard for life (IMO of course) and while you could say it was their fate to be murdered it still seems wrong to end anothers life by murder.

Yet Saga, who seems so full of emotion, sadness, caring, even some kindness, and that empathy with the Bosmer maid and many other living things, is in a death cult, a guild of murderers who kill people for pay. Worse she worships an entity of chaos, death, and destruction. Plunging souls into unmaking and the void instead of the light.

Anyhow I just have a hard time getting my head around the two concepts being together :-)

Great story and images Kayol - I am a huge admirer of your work and skill at writing. You bring true life to words by wrapping them in many subtle layers of context and meaning.

I won't write much here because you already know how much your comment means to me (and the goblin, let's not forget the goblin). I'll just thank you once again for your extremely kind and encouraging words.
I'm really glad you like these crazy metaphors I coin! And you've created a cool one yourself - come on, an "imp dancing on neurons"? Love it!
About Saga - it's a good thing you are confused about her. A really good thing, in fact, since I'm confused as well and it would be so embarassing if the readers understood my creation better than me, her mommy! I absolutely agree with you on the whole DB philosophy and the approach to Sithis they represent. And I believe we can all agree that murder is wrong and nobody should do it! Fortunately, licentia poetica allows us to create different approaches to life that do not represent our own.
We are all built with everything we've experienced in life. I think Saga's philosophy is a result of her upbringing mixed with everything she learnt while being completely alone, after the death of her parents (well, at least one parent) and later her grandmother. Having so many pieces of information in her head, she had to patch it up somehow and create her own philosophy. She first learnt about Sithis from some book she found, remember? Not to mention she was introduced to him from that "lighter" side - she helped the children that were treated like dirt by Grelod. No wonder she understand the concept of DB differently. Also, as a huntress, she got used to killing - but killing in a special way. I can see her perceiving herself as a dagger itself rather than the hand that wields it. She doesn't feel hatred, jealousy or whatnot towards the targets, she is just a tool of someone else. But who knows? Maybe things will change for her one day (remember her father and his words about DB?)
Damn... see? Even I can't explain it clearly! I must write a story on this, somehow things feel more simple while written as a narrative rather than a comment.
Anyway, thank you very, very much for your fantastic feedback!

Thanks for taking the time to explain more and she does make more sense now to me when you explain it that way.

For me it is less the killing that bothers me with the DB and more the souls. Souls are eternal, and real in Skyrim, so sending them to the Void seems the worst possible crime anyone could commit ... although I suppose no worse them sucking them into gems to make bling-bling enchantments (which is why Grim refuses to use any enchantment).

The whole soul thing in TES is weird. I suspect when eternity itself gets to weary take all souls would eventually seek the peace of the void, as will the Universe itself someday ... but sending them there early seems to be very nasty. That is my real beef with the DB and Sithis in general.

I agree, they seem to have some strange craze concerning torturing souls in TES series. Capturing them inside of gems, sending them to some deity for eternity... but who knows, maybe there is cable and stable Internet connection there? Maybe it's more like a paradise? One can only hope!

I... wow. That was stunning my friend! You start off in the basement and we end up there again to at the end while your artful wording drew us along with Saga on her foray through the embassy.. it is easy to get lost in your writing and feel we are *there* watching! Your attention to detail is astounding!
It mad so much sense that Saga felt more herself in the leather armor.. and when those shots of Larkspur taking off her helmet at the end there... so cute, amazing work!!

Awesome in every way, you are one of the best storyteller on nexus. The only flaw perhaps is the excessive length, which initially frightened, but then between the beauty of the images and your skill as a writer, we end up regretting being already come to the end. 100 endorsements.

Yeah... I just went with a flow on this one, didn't I? I try to keep these pieces short, but you know how it is: sometimes the story gets longer and longer and you don't know what to do about it.
      Anyway, thank you very much!
