Looks like Rathe is finally coming to terms with the fact that he probably can't save Regan -- that the Regan he knew effectively died long ago. A touching moment, between him and Fleur, too -- though I have to wonder what Darius and especially Quintus are thinking.

    Lovely screenshots, too!

Another good chapter down. And on to the next...

My feelings exactly, overjoyed to at last have Rathe utter those three words. And now terrified to read on. Fortune has never smiled upon those two.
      Epic work!!

I hardly have any words of my own to describe this....my fellow Countryman, the estimable and talented Kami wrote very eloquently and succinctly just about everything that was already on my mind. ^^
    (He's VERY good at that....freaking telepath....^^ )

The haunting quality of Rathe's almost overpowering and heart-wrenching angst is quite jarring to say the least....while the observant Darius and Quin are probably strongly suspecting by now that he and Fleur are lovers.
Gee, whatever would possibly give them THAT clue?? ^^

Rathe can probably THROW those two farther than either I or he can and should trust them....

I sincerely hope that Fleur (at least) BURNS the Red Rose to right down to cinders, like the P.O. just did to their former "Sanctuary", but while letting all the girls there escape, with the obvious exception of ZuZu and her hired thugs of course.

Endorsed. Warm and kind thanks for this imminent emotional closure, Jess, and cheers, dear!

Thanks sweetie! Yes Kami is fantastic at wrapping up exactly what I'm feeling after reading something and articulating it so much better than I ever could!

I love this chapter because it shows that side of Rathe we don't usually see (and may not again)... I also loved the lighting when I was taking some screenies here that let me pop off a few good shots!

Some strong emotions at work with the deep Rathe and it was good that he trusts Fleur enough to show that side of himself and let her in. He has held onto that past memory of Zuzu and not the current version and seems like he has finally had to confront that last piece of the conflict between his and his sister (his vision of who she was versus who she is now). Perhaps in burying that past memory of her he can also bury his idea that he failed her by having to kill her now. That is if he succeeds of course.

Deep and moving story and I can see why you wanted this as a stand alone story. Something like this needs its own focus. A nice night of reading with these three tales - thanks for sharing them and ever more curious now to see how things will play out with Zuzu.

Thanks hon. This was the calm before the storm... the feeling before the reaction.

As you say, I thought it was important enough to separate out from the next chapter (especially in light of what the next chapter's about).

I think this might be the first time the real unmasked man that Rathe is (or could have been) is shown. This is the Rathe that might have been if the Albino had never darkened his doorstep. A big hearted guy, tender and gentle with nothing but love to share. Sigh...

I'm hoping to have the next chapter up tonight... be warned; it's a game changer.

That description odd empty feeling he had, that lack of anger towards his sister, the lack of fear at the prospect of assaulting the Red Rose, was haunting, the way he became distant and cold on the journey. Was interesting that Fleur found him with tears running down his face, that he was unashamed of them, a rare state for him to be in. It is touching that he keeps those old memories of Regan before she was twisted into what she is now, those times when they had that bond of sibling now lost. It was wonderful how without Fleur a word Rathe understood the sorrow she felt out of love for him, whispering those tender words to her. That emotion is beautifully reflected in the shots as well.

There is still something unsettling about Quintis and Darius, the way they kept a watchful eye on the pair, their motivations and goals difficult to read in this whole situation. With the assault approaching those mysteries could be a danger. I hope Rathe will be vigilant if some surprise does arise for his sake and Fleur's. A wonderfully emotional chapter, my friend ^^

Thanks hon. Yes I don't usually display that side of Rathe very often; the human, vulnerable,e side. He definitely has it, he just usually keeps it under control. The difference here was that he didn't feel shamed to show his emotions this once. Perhaps because they are on point; he's perfectly right to feel sad at losing his sister. It's like he's finally grieving for the little girl taken by the albino all those years ago.

It was a short chapter but necessary I feel.

      Thanks again dear.

This was very emotionally intense chapter, wonderfully written as always with fantastic, beautiful and expressive shots.

Quin and Darius apparently has become friends... they don't seem bother of the future ambush at all, which is kinda strange and speaks either of their confidence in their skill or maybe something else, like some plot... yeah, I know, I am paranoid about those two but I don't trust them at all. Quin is like a basket of riddles and Darius given his long infatuation with Fleur seemed to be not bothered by her close relationship with Rathe this time, which is again strange...

I can understand why Rathe became so closed off, for him avenging Regan was like quest of lifetime and there was such hope in his heart when he saw her alive... only this hope at reunion was crushed and turned to dust, because Regan indeed has died many years ago and this twisted thing that occupies her body is Momma ZuZu, cruel, sadistic and vicious person, a monster in human hide... She almost destroyed him and Fleur and might do so in the future, for who knows how this ambush on Red Rose might end...

It was heartbreaking to see Rathe struggle with memories of his childhood, of Regan, of who she once was and who she might if not for that tragedy... and it is great thing that Fleur can reach him and his heart even without speaking any words... this silent understanding is like a sign of then being soulmates. Hope that they might have few moments like this in the future...
I am so looking forward for continuation and thank you very much for sharing your wonderful work!

Thanks hon. I love that description of Quin as a basket of riddles! Nice. As for he and Darius, well Darius is young and just lost his father and here's this enigmatic older man paying him the kind of attention he wants from Rathe but never gets... He's kind of enamoured. As for his feelings about Rathe and Fleur.... Maybe he's recognised the better man must win?

This was a hard one for Rathe; he finally had to admit hat Regan is gone and tat ZuZu must die. The promise he made to Fleur is very important. This is my gift to you.

And Fleur finally shows a grown up side; being there to comfort Rathe for once without it being all about her. The little girl is growing up...
