With the release of SkyUI 3.0, and the impending release of Dragonborn, there have been a lot of changes made to The Dance of Death of late, so this brief article will seek to clarify a few important facts about the new versions of TDoD that are coming up.
From version 3.9 onwards, The Dance of Death will be using the brand new MCM system developed by the amazing SkyUI team. This means that the latest version of SkyUI is now an essential file, and by extension the latest SKSE and Skyrim version. All traces of the old configuration system and readme notes have been removed from the latest version, and the .esp has been decluttered with TES5Edit.
Configuring the settings will now be as easy as bringing up the pause menu, then selecting the Mod Configuration option, then selecting The Dance of Death from the menu and using the various buttons and sliders to make your selections. Descriptions of the settings appear below the config boxes, to help you decide the choice that best reflects what you want to see in your game.
-Version 3.9 will be released as soon as beta testing is finished. There will be two variations of 3.9; A Dawnguard and Non-Dawnguard version, so be sure to download the one which reflects your DLC orientation. 3.9 requires SkyUI 3.0, as well as the most up-to-date versions of Skyrim and SKSE.
-Version 4.0 will be the Dragonborn release number, and will be published once Dragonborn has been released and the necessary changes have been made to The Dance of Death to accommodate the new DLC. 4.0 has a Dawnguard, vanilla and Ultimate (all-DLC) edition. 4.0 requires SkyUI 3.0, and the most up-to-date versions of Skyrim and SKSE upon release.
The following the the necessary progression for updating from any pre-MCM version to a post-MCM version:
3.1 -> 3.3-> Stopquest /Clean Save -> 3.9 -> 4.0
When updating from 3.3 and below to 3.9 and above, it is necessary to perform a cleansave, using the following process:
Load your saves, then open the console and input the following:
stopquest DanceOfDeathAddSpellQuest
Save and exit.
1: Completely remove any old versions of TDoD from your Data directory. If you have used the NMM to install TDoD, simply deactivate the mod. If you have manually installed TDoD, you must manually remove all of these files. This includes The Dance of Death.esp and .bsa from previous versions if applicable, but also the loose files listed below:
-meshesclutterooksDanceofDeathAsset.nif
-meshesclutterooksDanceofDeathBook.nif
-texturesclutterooksDanceofDeathBookFront.dds
-texturesclutterooksDanceofDeathBookFront_n.dds
-texturesclutterooksDanceofDeathBookFront_em.dds
-texturesclutterooksDanceofDeathBookBack.dds
-texturesclutterooksDanceofDeathBookBack_n.dds
-scriptsDanceOfDeathAddspell.pex
-scriptsDanceOfDeathMenuScript.pex
-scriptssourceDanceOfDeathAddspell.psc
-scriptssourceDanceOfDeathMenuScript.psc
2: Load your savegame and perform a clean save into a new slot. (No waiting necessary)
3: Enable the new version of TDoD.
If you encounter no increase in killmove frequency after adjusting these settings, then you will require FNIS as well. Some animation replacer mods, either basic or complex, can inhibit TDoD's functions and prevent killmoves from occurring. By running FNIS, and executing the GenerateFNISForUsers tool while ticking the applicable mods, FNIS controls these other mods so that they don't inhibit The Dance of Death's functionality.
Note that when updating from 3.9 to a higher version, note that a clean save is NOT necessary.
Thanks to everyone for their constant support and feedback, and let us know your thoughts on the new MCM system.

greetings fabian
i do all stages and it doesnt work'
Do some research on Papyrus (The script program Bethesda uses for Skyrim). Anyone who installs mods should so they know risks of installing, uninstalling, and getting proper mods that match the DLC's they have, or don't have. Knowing the mere basics of what scripting is will help you understand how to prevent CTD's and why some mod's require certain things. Hope this was helpful
If you don't like the changes to your UI that SkyUI causes, but still want to be able to use the MCM (and by extension the latest versions of this mod) you could always download SkyUI-Away (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29440)
