First appearing as an unnamed boss in the adventure title Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, the Wind God Fujin made his debut as a playable character Mortal Kombat 4. Along with Raiden, Fujin is another character in the series to have originated from Japanese religion, based on the Shinto god of the wind of the same name. He appears as a tall, ageless, muscular human with long white hair bound in a ponytail and glowing white eyes. The back of his Mortal Kombat 4 costume features the Chinese character 空, whose most relevant translation to English is air or sky. As expected, he has a great variety of wind-oriented attacks at his disposal. In Mortal Kombat 11, Fujin is revealed to be Raiden's younger brother.[1] At some point in time, Fujin left the Sky Temple to live among the humans, much to Raiden's chagrin. The Thunder God feared sentiment would impede Fujin's duties if he became too close to mortals. This resulted in a fight between the two gods. This, according to Fujin, was the only time they ever came to quarrel with one another.Fujin's time among the humans changed his outlook, realizing that contrary to Raiden's fear of sentiment weakening Fujin, it actually strengthened him. Instead of fighting to kill the enemy, he now fights to protect the ones he loves most, hence why he understands Jax's pain as a result of his "failures" and how deep those wounds can be manipulated. As a result, he is more relatable on a human level than Raiden is. He serves as a beacon of hope to the people of Earthrealm, helping to inspire and uplift their spirits with his relatively optimistic view of life.
