- just over a year and month after the last update. But do not despair, the wait is over and it was worth it!
EDIT: Continue reading here with proper formatting.
In this small article I want to introduce EBD's new in game menus to customize the looks of an NPC.
You can change eyes, hair, beards, scars and eye brows all in game.
Our subject of experimentation is Ulfberth Hipster-Beard who did kindly agree to the modeling job.
Now the first shot already shows a completely overhauled Ulfberth; all of his headparts have been changed:

Now we're applying the customizer spell on Ulfberth. You can see the main menu which allows you to change all headparts of Ulfberth, either one-by-one or all together. If you have race menu installed you also get the bonus option of changing body paint and scales:
Click Me
Going into the hair menu. This sub menu allows you to specifically change the hair. Either randomly or by searching for it or by opening a list containing all valid hairs. You can also block the current hair from appearing at all if you don't like it:
Click Me
And selecting a new hair for our friend. I've chosen the option "Select New Hair" which opens the list containing all possible hairs for Ulfberth (the current one is indicated by the >>>):
Click Me
After choosing a new hair it takes immediately effect in game:
Click Me
On the patcher side quite a few things have changed as well. This is the new headpart menu:

It has all the options as it had before but now you can enable/disable headparts by gender. For that click onto the Headpart Editor button and select the gender and headpart type you want to edit:

After clicking on Edit the you get the following options. Disable vanilla headparts will exclude Skyrim headparts from being distributed and only consider mod added headparts. The probability is the likelihood that a given NPC will receive a new headpart:

Note that in order to correctly process custom races, EBD has to know which Skyrim race they are based of or resemble the most. This is done in the Custom Race Editor, which may be opened in the Head Settings panel. After EBD has imported your load order click on Load Custom Races. Afterwards select the custom race you want to edit:

The custom race selected above is the DLC1NordRace from the Dawnguard DLC. Note that EBD comes with predefined settings for the DLC races. When you click on Set you'll see which vanilla Skyrim races are assigned to that custom race:

As you can see for the DLC1NordRace it's the NordRace, big surprise. Now you only really need the Custom Race Editor if you have mods adding NPCs with custom races to the game and you want EBD to change their headparts. Otherwise feel free to ignore the existence of the Custom Race Editor.
So, that was the "short" introduction to EBD's redone headpart feature. For the other features of EBD check the description or readme and be sure to read the big changelog for version 3.30.
