I have managed to trudge through the awful low-res textures for Azura's Star and managed to make a working MLP setup for it!  I also did some NIF work to separate the crystal bits from the non-crystal bits to make the two able to have discrete materials.  All three versions are MLPized: Broken, Pure, Black.

You will need one of the two main versions of the mod for it to work, and the Broken/Pure will use whatever MLP subsurface texture color that the Grand Soul Gem uses in your chosen version.

As usual, screenshots don't do a dynamic material like this justice and it's best to view it in-game, but here's a screenshot in NIFSkope 2.0 (right-click-view to see fullsize):
