Once these are turned in, he will invite you to join the museum as the relic hunter. This quest can begin by chance as you enter, by selling an artifact to any merchant which could be displayed in the museum, or by finding the advertisement at many inns. The museum remains locked until all 5 are turned in. This quest is NOT available when using the LAL start.

This quest is ONLY available on the LAL start.

Shattered Legacy - After displaying 550 items, Auryen will award his final display count reward, the sword of ancient tongues. At this point, a man will seek you out anywhere in the world and begin the questline to uncover the lost relics of the dragonborns of old and uncover your true legacy.

How to use the Museum

Displays:
You can place any unique item which has a display in its specific display location by clicking on the display while the item is in your inventory. Click again to remove it. All items put on display are stored inside the museum's Display Safe located in the library cabinet behind the Curator's desk. This allows all improvements you make to items to be maintained. There are several displays in the museum which appear to be vacant of a display activator; these displays will become available when the relic for it is in your inventory as you enter the area with the display. These are for relics which you only get to choose one option for in the course of its quest, and the appropriate display will be available.

Supported Mod System:
Legacy is set to adapt itself, self patch and modify the museum and surrounding areas according to which mods you have loaded which it supports. Some mods require patches but others Legacy can handle automatically on its own. Certain mods will enable additional displays or galleries and some will adapt the outside to accomodate various city overhaul mods. See the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod page article section for a complete list of supported mods and patched mods.

Display count pacing:
Most of Legacy's quests and features are handled by your display count. Certain quests become available as your display count increases and patrons will visit the museum and leave you donations in the box by the front door starting at 50 displays. They donate randomly each day based on total display count.

Prep Stations:
In the back work room of the library you will find a prep station for displays. When used, all items from your inventory which are not already on display and NOT equipped, favorited, or added to the exclusion list (see safehouse features to follow), will be placed in the museum safe and the display enabled. There is one prep station which handles all displays. While the prep stations are processing the item lists, displays cannot be placed or removed manually and the safe cannot be emptied. This process generally takes between 30 seconds to 3 minutes depending on how many items from the different galleries you have with you at the time.

Centralized Storage:
The museum prep room, Gallery of Natural Science and all excavation base camps have access to a centralized stack of crates that provide menu based access to all storage inside the safehouse. There is also an optional spell you can activate in the MCM menu which allows remote access to this feature.

Persistent Museum Feature:
Legacy is equipped with the option to carry your displays forward into a new character's save! Simply by activating the feature at the "Contributor's Ledger" or turning the option on in the MCM configuration menu, that character's items and accomplishments will be displayed in other saves which also have the system enabled. Actual items are not accessible, but will remain displayed. If you retrieve a duplicate of that item in another playthrough and wish to store it, simply use the console to disable the display and then activate it to display the item.

Jewelry Cabinet:
A jewelry case just off from the library can have items displayed via the prep station, or by simply adding items into the cabinet at the base. These models will update dynamically to match any model replacer that affects unique jewelry. All displays disappear and refresh with any jewelry that is present in the case.

Book Sets:
Special book cases are in place to accept and display book sets. Using the prep station will display 1 copy of each book automatically, or the shelf can be activated to either remove all of that set or place any missing books of that set you may have onto the shelf.

Book Sorting:
Once you have all your unique and rare books sorted via the prep station or manually placed, you can empty the rest into the Book Return on the second floor library (between the library section and the Dragonborn Hall). After emptying your books into the Return, activate the card catalog sorter across from it. The books will then be sorted into the various category book cases on that floor (Alphabetical, Numerical, Spells, Skill Books, Notes, Journals, etc). Please note that this sorter is NOT for scrolls or any other item type and may cause problems if you try.

Library Reader Function:
After sorting books, use the left card catalog to update the book list. All books stored or displayed in the library can be read simply by sitting in any of the chairs of the library. Your inventory will then be populated with all books from the book list and upon standing once again, the books will be removed.

Scribe's Desk:
Auryen's desk in his office (aka the prep area) can be used to make copies of quest books previously found so that you can have an extra on display. It's best to turn the book in first to ensure the quest does not bug, then make a copy. The station can also make paper rolls which are needed, by breaking down ruined books.

Basement Printing Press:
This special station is used to copy books for display. Originally intended for quest books, the system was retired but left accessible for general book copying use. Requires paper, ink and leather to create a copy of any book placed in the original stand. A copy will spawn on the press and the original will be returned.

Mannequin Configuration:
Two mini mannequins in the library can be activated to swap the mannequins in the Armory from being set with half male mannequins and half female mannequins, or can be set to all male. Use the all male option if you prefer using a mannequin replacer mod. Make sure to empty the mannequins before swapping their state or items will be lost.

Paintings:
Paintings which are acquired throughout Skyrim can be placed in any of the painting locations in the museum and safehouse. These can be manually placed throughout the museum and safehouse. Using the museum safe to empty all displays will also remove the paintings.

Quest Item Displays and Replicas:

Quest items which are turned in and not obtainable again cannot typically be displayed. Instead a replica workstation is in the prep area and safehouse workshop which allows construction of replicas to be used for display. Quest items you retain can be displayed manually but will typically not sort via the prep station to avoid accidentally removing a needed item during the quest. To make replica items, you simply have to have acquired the item during play but do not have to currently have it in hand to make a replica (requires Legacy to be loaded when item was found). Once a replica has been crafted, the option is removed and further copies can be made at a blacksmith forge. The replica station will also create replicas of most items as long as you have them in your inventory. This will allow you to display a replica and use the original if you wish.

Quest Achievement Displays:
Upon completing major quest lines such as guild quests, main quests etc, an exhibit in the museum will permanently enable when entering the museum. If these displays do not enable properly because of a mod conflict, you can enable them using the MCM configuration menu; Display management section.

Exploration Exhibits:
When exploring Dwemer ruins, Nordic ruins, or Snow Elf ruins, Giant camps, Forsworn hideouts, etc, various displays will enable automatically in the Hall of Lost Empires. Alternately, if these displays are not working for you, you may enable them in the MCM configuration menu.

Doomstone and Shrine Displays:
These displays will enable when receiving a blessing from the corresponding stone or shrine. Doomstones do not need to have their blessing accepted, only the stones have to be activated to get the display.

Safe House Features

Supply Sorting:
Inside the safehouse workshop you will find a chest overflowing with goods. Activate this chest and all crafting materials, scrolls, potions, soul gems and more will be sorted into their proper storage containers. You can configure which items you wish to have sorted or not in the MCM configuration menu, or by utilizing the supply sorting planning station to the left of the sorter. When an object is visible in the shelf, that variety of item will be sorted.

Storage containers are also learning containers. So if there are any mod added items you would like sorted at the press of a button as well, simply place them manually into the container and they will be recorded to the sort lists. If you ever wish to reset a sort list to default, simply use the Supply Planner book on the stand next to the Supply Sorter and choose which list to reset. The MCM menu also has an option for this.

Dynamic Storage Displays:
Any items placed inside the raw or cooked food containers, the liquor cabinet or
the dishes hutch will display throughout the safehouse on the tables, counters
and shelves around the area. Grabbing these items will also give you back one of that item from the container and disable the display if the container has none left.

Craftloot System:
By default the craftloot system is disabled but can be turned on in the MCM menu or by activating the craftloot toggle book to the left as you enter the workshop area. While it is enabled, using any craft station in the safehouse will loot any supply item that currently is set to sort in the MCM menu which is common for that station to utilize. When used, the station will first give you all supply crafting items and then enter into crafting like normal. After the station is left, the items will return to storage. If the system starts to cause issues due to to excessive stored items, either thin your supplies or disable the craftloot system to avoid problems.

Sorting Exclusion List:
The museum prep station will ignore any items equipped or favorited but also will ignore items on the exclude list. Any items you place inside the "Exclude from sorting" knapsack near the supply sorting area will be recorded to a list after the container is closed. This list will ignore all rules and these items will always remain in your inventory unless manually displayed or stored. The supply sorter, craftloot system and prep station will ignore these items. Simply remove all items after you have exited the container to record them.

Disenchanting Font:
The safehouse is equipped with a disenchanting font which will erase enchantments from player-made artifacts and temporarily from unique artifacts. DO NOT use the font on any generic enchanted gear that you find or purchase as the font will BREAK any future copies you may find. This is ONLY for use with player made enchantments and it is irreversible short or reloading an earlier save. Unique items disenchanted will restore to normal when you re-load the game. Place a single item into the font, wait for the magical activator to appear, activate it and remove your disenchanted item. All improvements and name changes are reverted. This font will work with all mod added items as well.

Soulgem Transmorgraphier:
This station allows you to combine smaller soul gems into larger ones as well as to craft petty gems out of 5 identical fragments. The station will work to combine empty as well as filled soul gems.

Soul Extraction Altar:
The soul extractor will consume an enchanted weapon and provide filled soul gems equal to its maximum charge amount. This only works for weapons and does nothing with armor.

Sorting Chest:
The sorting chest is a universal master sorter for the entire museum and safehouse. The ONLY thing it will not do is display unique items. Any item placed into the sorting chest will go to a number of storage containers throughout the safehouse and even museum. Gold will go to the treasury in the bedroom, food to the kitchen, books to the museum library book return, scrolls to the scroll storage, liquor to the wine cellar, weapons to their appropriate racks and much more. Any item that does not sort will remain in the container. The only items that don't sort are typically mod added items that have no keywords or are not on sorting lists. Manual placement of these items into learning containers will program them to the appropriate list for future sorting.

Treasury Room:
The hidden treasury room has a ledger which is used to store gold. When you store gold inside the ledger, the treasury room will fill with more and more loot displays. Continue adding up to 2 million gold to have the treasury fully filled. The system also identifies the gold value of gold ingots, silver ingots, gems and a number of mod supported items such as Coins of Tamriel mod and More Interesting Loot treasure. There is also a pedestal for King Orgnum's Coffer which will automatically use the coffer's daily gold gain ability and add it to your treasury as long as it remains on display there.

Closet System:
The safehouse offers a quick store, quick equip outfit system. Simply click to store your outfit and designate one of the several categorized containers from a list and every equipped armor slot will be removed and placed in the chosen container. Then activate the change outfit activator to select which outfit you wish to wear. All items will be added to your inventory and equipped. You can also manually open each drawer and place your outfit items inside as you wish. The MCM configuration menu also has an optional spell you can add to remotely access this closet system to store or change outfits.

Sell Cart:
After 100 displays are in place, you will have the option to have Auryen start to empty the sell cart in the safehouse and sell the items for you. You will get 30% of the value of items sold initially and over time, it grows to 50%. The cart will sell a random number of stacks of items each day which is configurable in the MCM menu. The sell cart will calculate the gold value of pre-enchanted gear, but because of limitations of the system, will only count base value of enchanted items you have created.

Furniture Upgrades:
A furniture set can be purchased at Bits and Pieces which will add crates to the kitchen which can be used to set the spare room as either a companion room or a children's room. Additionally, the set can be used to configure the outside porch of the safehouse as a garden or sitting area.

Hotsprings Upgrading:
A landscaping package is available for sale at Bits and Pieces which will enhance the decor of the hot springs area.

Explorer's Society
The explorer's society is a player established guild that is begun along with Auryen and unlocks a number of new interesting features, NPC's and quests.

Explorer Relics:
A number of unique items can be found which bolster your relic hunting skills and abilities by helping to track relics, dig sites, improve fragment drop rates and give other special bonuses. These relics can be used or displayed in the trophy case of the Explorer's guildhouse.

Archeology:
Find excavation sites in or near all Nordic, Dwemer and Falmer ruins. You will gain a few fragments which you should bring to the archaeology station in the guildhouse, workshop or prep room. A number of fragments can be assembled to create artifacts which can be displayed in the Hall of Lost Empires. Many of these items also have special abilities you may want to utilize. As you gather fragments and assemble relics, you will gain skill in an Archaeology skill that will allow you to create more elaborate items and unique relics.

Archeology Perks:
Legacy offers three brand new perk trees for archaeology! These perk trees operate 100% apart from the menu skill tree and therefore will not conflict in any way. The trees are accessible only at the Explorers guildhouse or in the MCM menu where you can select the perks you desire.

Easter Eggs:
A variety of easter eggs and shout outs can be found throughout Legacy:

-NMM download button: In the museum storeroom a rusted, broken down large metal panel is found that is the shape of a Nexus download link button and has the words "Download (NMM)" on it in falmer. when activated the tablet reads: "This appears to be strange button of sorts and only the last three letters can be translated as "NMM" but it is clearly broken beyond repair without any hope of functioning properly... best not to ask about it." This is a clear shout out to the fact that Legacy cannot be download and probably will never be able to be downloaded via NMM, and that people need to stop asking about it

-Ice's Stalhrim Spoon of Assassination: a knife/spoon that adds to crafting skills, a small shout out to the author of Legacy icecreamassassin

-"It belongs in a museum" quest: a famous line from Indiana Jones and the last crusade

-Discarded Sack: A sack which contains a bar of soap, a set of prison clothes and a worn out rock hammer damn near worn down to the nub. This is found at the end of a hidden tunnel from a prison cell in Deepholme and is a homage to The Shawshank Redemption.

-Rkund excavation sepulcher scene: A depiction of the famous wizard of oz wizard room scene which depicts Latoria (cowardly lion), Kyre (tin man), Marassi (Scarecrow) and Madras (Dorothy) deliver the lines from that scene as they approach a large dwemer head which appears and says "I am Kaz, the great and powerful..."

-"I've been known to locate some things from time to time."- Erianna. A memorable line by Red from The Shawshank Redemption.

Madras' sexual orientation: Not really an easter egg but an interesting subtext that developed entirely on it's own. Not something I gave any thought to but after realizing that Madras inadvertently ended up with a female walking animation and he defaults to the Dorothy role in the Rkund Wizard of Oz scene, I can without a doubt say that Madras is most likely Gay :)

-Fafnir the racoon: A shout out to FafnirEterion who won the Explorer Guild mascott quest design contest with his idea for a Racoon that steals something from the excavation and they have to recover it. Also a shout out to Richard Wagner's Ring cycle of operas which includes the mythical dragon Fafnir, a giant turned greedy dragon, who's affinity for shiny things carries over to our furry mascot.

Jelal: Character name taken from Jelal in the Japanese Manga/Anime Fairy Tail

Explorer's Society: The guild name "Explorer's Society" is taken from AEG's collectable card game "7th sea". The explorer's society was one of my favorite factions to play in that game.

-Society Guard members names: The 5 new explorer society guards added to the museum and Deepholme are named: Sieglinde, Siegmund, Ger'trune (Gertrune), Hagar, and Gunther after characters in Richard Wagner's Der Ring Des Nibelungen

- Solid Bronze Tablet: Snow elf artifact has falmer text that can be decoded to read:
" Congratulations, you have shown your dedication and willingness to waste a ton of time and  deciphered this falmer tablet. The person who manages to decipher the text and PM me with the keyword below will be entitled to a custom designed item of their choosing (bear in mind as of
the engraving of this tablet, I cannot make armor). Just PM with the secret word " farfignugen " to claim your prize! "

The winner of this prize was Kaitwospirit who has requested "The bracer of Vivec" as a relic

- Chime puzzle in the temple of the venerable ones has an extra chime hidden in the ruins which when used in combination will play the classic tone from " close encounters of the third kind " Placing them in the order: 5, 6, 4, 9, 1 (9 being the new chime) the tone will play when activated. To which Kyre will merely reply " This means something " a classic line from the movie
