Requiem 1.8 - State of the project and Backwards Compatibility

Sorry guys, Nexus Formatting is just trying to annoy me as much as possible... please read the blog post at Confluence. I don't have the time to try to fix up Nexus format right now, but you can leave any comments you have here. :)

1.8 sounds promising, but first, a curiosity: will any of the numerous patches designed for 1.7 3 function with 1.8? I dont expect compatibility with patches that make grandiose changes like dragonborn remade, but what about smaller patches, like getting followers to play nice with requiem?

That largely depends on the patches in question. Some of them will surely need an update, but I guess[!] that most patches should work as before. The main issue will likely be that patches for mods related to bandits might require a rebalance.

And there are actually also some compatibility improvements to be shipped, like a better support of Dual Sheath Redux.

Most of them. I'm in the loop with the development of 1.8 so I will have updated patches pretty quick.

      Here.

Thanks for the update OgerBoss! Just got to say, I really feel confident when I see mod-devs with a clear project plan for future developments. Besides the actual mod, the effort you put into keeping us updated and sharing a few details is very much appreciated.

Really looking forward to playing a new game in 1.8 !

first, i'm new to requiem. but the feeling is very good.
second, for my type of gaming, requiem has a huge hole: the complexity of system's perks. it's too poor. are there some mods compatible with requiem? like sperg, or Syynxs Perky Reborn. if i load them after requiem, i get compatibility problems?

The philosophy behind Requiem's perk system is that every perk should make a difference and your skills have far less impact than in Vanilla Skyrim, unless coupled to perks. Therefore Requiem does not flood you with tons of different perks with almost no effects. However, I agree that some areas of the perktrees could definitely use more variety. Within the given philosophy it is however not always easy to find ideas for valuable new perks.

Perk trees cannot combined. If you load other perk-tree mods before Requiem, they will have no effect and if loaded after Requiem, they will overwrite Requiem's perk trees and some of the perks, potentially causing serious harm to the core mechanics.

    Hello Oger,

first of all thank you for the feedback on version 1.8
one question about the compatibiliy, when I use 1.8 with a 1.7.3 savegame will it break my game or can I just go one withouth the 1.8 benefits ?

Unfortunately, it will break your game and therefore I intend to tell the updater to just refuse doing this. If it would not be gamebreaking (and very annoying/time-consuming to fix), I would not have decided to drop backward compatibility.
