Hi All,
A lot has been going on the past few weeks. I've had to take some time out to think about things and the general direction of my work on Belua Sanguinare Revisited. I am posting this as an article so that it's a bit more permanent, doesn't get lost in the comments fields, and hopefully can be used to provide status updates separately from the main mod description. There are some things going on that I want/need to be transparent about. I hope you don't mind me sharing some personal insight...
I don't want this to come off cliche, but this is how it is. I'm a 41 year old software debugger in a pretty aggressive industry. I'm a husband and father of two and constantly re-evaluate where I'm at in my relationship with employment, my family, my wife, and my self. I won't go into the work I do, but suffice to say it's a very unique skill set to the software I support and debug that ultimately isn't that marketable outside of my company so I've been making some slight, mid to long term, decisions in where I want to take the next stage of my life.
One of my passions has always been photography, but generally as a hobby, nothing professional. Given my age, and the potential for age/tenure discrimination in my industry (I've been at my company for over 17 years) I've decided to take my photography to the next level, seeking to get my Certified Professional Photographer's License. This is going to involve several months of training and exercise as I prepare for one of the more challenging exams and certification processes that I've taken.
As for the modding scene, I've been a bit at odds with the way things have been handled with regards to Dawnguard over the past month with no word on whether Bethesda will be releasing the source files. This, coupled with my studies, has dampened some of the desire to work heavily on BSR. I am not happy with the current state of BSR with regards to Dawnguard co-existence, and while many have had success with reverse engineering the source from disassembled .PEX files to create mods for use with Dawnguard, I don't think that's the best route to take from a supportability point of view and have stayed away from doing so.
So what does this mean for Belua Sanguinare Revisited - Dynamic Vampires? I've been the primary coder while Jakisthe has overseen creative design and the direction of the project. What it means is that for the immediate future, and at least over the next 5-6 months BSR is going to see a much more limited release scope if other plans don't pan out. I plan to invest changes into BSR at a minimal rate, probably moving to a weekly release of small incremental beta updates and then monthly (or longer) releases of standard builds. I simply can't maintain the amount of focus on development and bug fixes that I have provided in the past.
Additionally, one of the reasons that we've never released on Steam was not being able to provide an active level of support to both distribution methods. Even now, I simply can't keep up with the day to day activities on the comment threads or forums so Jakisthe is going to try and put together bug and suggestion tracking for me, but I am going to have to take a back seat to commenting, which really pains me to do.
In the mean time I think it's safe to say we are also on the look out for proven developers in the skyrim mod community that might wish to help out with the direction and coding of Belua Sanguinare Revisited. By proven, I simply mean those that aren't new to scripting, and perhaps have some mods to demonstrate their ability. If you're interested in helping us along, please contact me and let me know, with pointers to any mods that you have worked on and what you think you could provide to BSR and the community. I would love to see this taken up by someone with the skill and passion to do so.
This project has been a labor of love for all things Vampirism for over 7 months and in the planning stages in one form or fashion for nearly 9 months since Skyrims initial release. This project is something that I helped to create, and potentially letting go leaves a bit of a yearning in its place and an odd absence though I've not let go of it entirely.
Finally, I apologies for my nearly complete absence the last two weeks. I have many personal messages to respond to. I've spent most of that time away from the community, primarily out of guilt while weighing on a decision that has not been easy to make. If you have sent me a PM over the last two weeks and I have not replied, it is not meant to ignore you or that I have not valued your comments, it is simply that I had to distance myself while I figured out the next evolution in my life.
I hope to some degree we have helped improved your experience in Skyrim and to all those that have responded in kind, I wish to extend a personal thank you. There have been very key players in the evolution of BSR, as documented in the documentation, but there have also been comments and suggestions from PMs, the forums, and the comment threads that have found some measure of life within BSR. To all of those people, thank you. It is you that have made BSR the experience it is today.

About some help, I don't know if he's gonna be interested in developing BSR, but this guy's ready to make a compatible patch for BSR with his mod, and I'm quite certain that his mod can improve BSR vampire experience further and give its fan a lot of new stuffs. the guy's named gulogulo.

I really think that his mod's really impressive, and he also told me that he knows you too, so this guy maybe can help you with these problems.
and again thank you for your hard works, it means so much for us[at least me and my friends]
Kudos!
So, from all of that: you deserve this. Games are, when you get down to it, just that. Games. They're amazing, they're whole new worlds, they can be life-changing, but they can not - and should not - actually BE life. Life comes before everything else, and I think we can all understand that. I'll keep you in the loop on just about everything, but it won't be daily. Lemme know what schedule works best for you
To everyone else, he's right about the community and how it's directed what we do. You guys made this from another one of my design pipedreams (and MMs genius, of course) into something that people actually enjoy. Wow! And, while I am loath to make this about me in any way, I can promise you that I will always be keeping this going through all trials and tribulations, and will not stop until it has reached my full vision.
