Skyrim

Hello, this is Raestloz writing.

I have news for you (dun dun dun dun...)

Dragonborn module is finished

After months of inactivity and slow progress, the Dragonborn module is finally done. This effectively marks PCEAr as finished, as Dragonborn is the last official DLC. The road has been long and tedious, but everything was worth it.

It has to be noted that I - even now as of this writing - have never touched Dragonborn in-game. In fact, I have never launched Skyrim after I updated to 1.9, so quirks is to be expected. I have learned from mistakes of the past, so Dragonborn module is a lot more polished (nomenclature wise). As usual, enchanted armors are supported and you can temper them too (only those that can be tempered in vanilla)

Here's a list of supported armors (may be non-exhaustive, this is off the top of my head):
Miraak's Clothes (including mask, but not the other 3 masks)
Cultist clothes (including mask)
Dunmer and Skaal clothes
Chitin, Nordic, Stahlrim, Bonemold armors
Morag Tong and Deathbrand armors

Major changes in armor procurement system

This is the 3rd time I write about this, but considering its nature, I certainly can't stress it enough: there is a major change in PCEAr's system.

Enemies will be the one wearing custom armors instead. This is done to significantly improve compatibility with other armor-dependent mods such as Guard Dialogue Overhaul and smelting mods.

Of course, this also breaks compatibility with numerous other mods that alter OTFT and LVLI records. But frankly, I am willing to make the sacrifice

You can opt out of the new version altogether by simply not updating. You can still utilize the Dragonborn module, just don't utilize the extension plugins, they are the ones that alter OTFT and LVLI records

This is also the reason of the version advancement. The way the mod works has changed drastically enough that it's nowhere similar to version 1.4.

If you're old-time user and wants to upgrade, be sure to convert all of your custom-version armors to vanilla versions before proceeding, and prepare to re-do everything else. Again (if you're user that updated from 1.0 esp to 1.0 esm)

Modder's resource

Since day one, I've always hoped that PCEAr will be adopted by other modders. This is, admittedly, not the case, as there is really no reason to complicate installation (and the incompatibilities thing only make things worse). With the new system, now it's no longer armor makers that have to modify their installation, but rather the gameplay-changer modders that has to replace their instances of armor / armor addon with my version

To that end, I have simplified the item nomenclature so my version always appears one row below the original one, this means modders can simply press 'down' on the dropdown menu and my version will be highlighted!

Admittedly, the bigger the mod, the more bothersome the process is. PCEAr will always be a niche mod that I don't think will take off astronomically in popularity, but at least I have given modders a way to provide support

The fate of version 1.4

As of the release of version 2.0 (which will be either tomorrow or in a few days), version 1.4 will no longer be supported.

This simply means I will not release any fixes for any problem found in version 1.4. Note that I will only not support the core 1.4. Modules for Dawnguard, Dragonborn and Hearthfire will still be supported, as they're not affiliated with version 1.4

The future of PCEAr

To be perfectly honest, I don't know what to do with PCEAr anymore. I will provide minor update for fixes but as far as meeting the goal goes, PCEAr is finished.

I can't say much, maybe I'll have a few ideas pop in my head later, but for now, that's all I want to say.
