So I was mentioning your Read-Aloud books mod to a friend. As someone who loves the lore of Skyrim, I'm all for making it more accessible to people who only open the books for skill points (read: my friend). I mentioned that the functionality would probably not be very lore friendly, sadly...unless you make up some reasoning that the books are enchanted with some magical voices. He made a really good suggestion. I don't know how feasible it is, but here I go anyway:

Perhaps you could have storytellers in the game. By this I mean NPCs that function much like bards, except that they employ themselves in telling stories instead of singing.

I realize that isn't necessarily the goal of your mod, but just throwing that idea out there, since it immediately struck me as a very lore friendly way of being read to. I myself would love sitting in an inn, while someone tells the adventures of Eslaf Erol beside a crackling fire. Even better, you could make the stories situational, so that Stormcloak propaganda is more likely to be read in Stormcloak-held cities, the 'Legend of Red Eagle' is a common tale in the Reach, etc.

Your Core Components mod sounds sorta like COBL.

Which is definitely not a bad thing.

well, as much fun as debating can be, I prefer to leave the specifics to the mods maker, they make the final call and regardless of what I or anyone else thinks it's theirs not ours.

that having been said I've had the time to review up some others besides  the realistic needs mod recently, but as mentioned before i have not been pleased by it at all. it was an easy and simple needs mod, and based upon my comments, I think you can clearly see, that that is exactly why I chose not to use it anymore. it was too easy it dumped down things that really didn't need to be.

that also having been said Ive since that time also looked into other mods like it. and also I think there are some clear reasons why one should look at all options before committing to one. Ive looked into a few myself and would say its a good service to relay my findings.

I've looked into one other mod recently, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10639
this one I've seen is a lot more complicated, so I think it has good contrast to realistic needs.many others will swear by this as being the only mod of its type you will ever need. I reserve this as enthusiasm, and nothing is wrong with that. but, I implore others to see for themselves because it can be daunting to get this mod configured just how you want it. it has many more options, but that too can be its weakness, I cant figure out what I want to set up first and it tends to be a little more extreme on its penalties. but mostly it can be configured to your play style more than any I've tried to date.

another one I've decided to run with is, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22327
and it is an example of the most extreme, this is also its weakness, death upon starvation and other means is not and I mean NOT optional if you do not take care of your character, they will die at end of it, and this cannot be turned off. this is why I say this one is only for those really dedicated to overall final consequence. I didn't find it too bad however as the penalty rates are somewhat adjustable, and you don't tend to jump immediately to do something NOW or your dyeing. it tends to be lenient towards letting you deal with that dragon first, then letting you eat something when its safe.

Epic badass warriors should not get tired if they swing a sword around, even if its the whole day, novices on the other hand need rest when they do so. I'm saying this because maybe skill should be taken into account when calculating (dynamically) the "tiredness level". Encumbrance should be a factor as well (a % based system so it works with mods that alter carry weight and its gain). Of course I dunno how much of it can be implemented and if those ideas are any good, just my 2 cents.

cant wait to see last seed, just heard about this and I'm stoked for it!

can I please just make one of my most major concerns voiced for a moment however, sleep being a need needs to be something separated out from the others.

In the needs mod which I use, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26228/ if your interested in checking it out.

I usually set the sleep requirement slider pretty low but regardless it still tends to pop when unnecessarily unrealistic. putting it simply I will get tired mid day even when I fully rested and slept for the night before. this happens even on the lowest possible setting due to the fact that the mods mechanic doesn't take time of day into account.

this is just stupid, not because its unrealistic, but because its unnecessarily tedious. sleeping needs to be dynamic. Because with realistic needs they tied it to your fatigue rate, this means that while you use stamina you get tired, realistic right? wrong because the fatigue meeter does not account for rest gained over time. you get sleepy tired instead of just plain fatigued as it should be instead. As a result I tend to turn the whole damned thing off due to this one major annoyance. I hope with last seed you do something to resolve this.

    Ideas

first, if you make your dunmer use a talking animation it will be as if he is talking to us in your voice! maybe some hand gestures! ok ok for real now.

Possibly in camp food preparation like cooking would bypass time a little faster. nothing extreme but maybe 30 minutes to make a medium meal, 1 hour for a large. Possibly a time pass for when you eat, like if you eat a loaf of bread, soup, and some cheese you bypass 30 mins to do so instead of instantly shoving it down. This time pass would use an animation like when you chop wood using the survival ability in Frostfall. The significance of this might simply be a factor of time management, i mean you need to sleep some time. On the other hand this could be used instead to have an hour pass to butcher an animal for meat after you killed it.

Fishing, trapping as you mentioned is a fantastic idea. Maybe for traps when you set one (bear trap or whatever) maybe it places a map marker or something to make the trap easier to check on later. either that or you set the trap and time passes as you "wait in the bushes"

If you wanted to make cooking more of a skill, as you cook perhaps you get more proficient in it and the food fills up more or gives a small buff, perhaps you cook it faster (if you add time).

I feel like harvesting stuff off a farm should be stealing? i mean yeah you can usually sell it for a few gold coins but you can also just as well run off with it

You could add a survival skill like "tracking" if you plan on overhauling wildlife AI and possibly movement patterns, the survival might be able to tell what you kind of animal will frequent a certain region. like "various canine-like footprints dot the ground in this area"

I tried to think of ideas that were not already in some of the popular needs mods already. I use RND right now and I think it covers pretty much all the practical things a need mod would use. disease, spoilage, sanitation, drunk effects, ect. But even so, like you said food is easy to come by, in my game it just becomes a factor of i should have some food with me and if i don't it takes two seconds to find some.

For sleeping I think of The Sands of Time by tonycubed2. Basically if you sleep in certain areas some people might come ruin your day. Maybe when setting up camp, its a good idea to have that follower stand watch, or set up a few traps to ward off those foxes from digging into your packpack at night, or maybe just a bear straight up decides to kick over your tent (metaphorically speaking)

wells that's all I got, I hope it helps a little. I'm sure you got your bases covered =P
