I believe you had to be a roleplaying geek back in the days when this game was released, 1998. I was and I still am today which is why I love RPG games above anything else. Baldur's Gate is very old on the market, but it laid the foundation for games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect since many of the people being involved in Baldur's Gate moved on to Bioware who created the more recent games. Baldur's Gate was also the very first game where you had companions and you could listen to their banter, even if it was in a simple form. I have a lot of love for Baldur's Gate obviously, and it's the game that got me start playing video games for real.
I plan on making every companion you can have from Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II, so expect a lot more during the SNC event...
Thumbs up for bringing back those memories, great job on Minsc
Since roleplaying was my thing, I didn't really need any other games than Baldur's Gate, so I stayed with it for a long time. I remember I picked up on Civilization and Age of Empires too, but that was really it for some time. Today I have too many games, I haven't even played them all. Living with social phobia has changed a lot since I prefer to stay inside in solitude, so games are somewhat a complement to the real world since I barely get anywhere. It's just how life has been dealt to me and I can't be sorry about it, so I try to have as much fun as I can, even if pending periods of depression is a great part of me nowadays too.
Minsc will not be alone, I plan on making more of the characters from Baldur's Gate, so expect more memories to arrive...
And finally, I've seen you story set with Hrongar - and yes, I guessed right - and I'm so sorry I haven't said anything yet. I've been living in the dark for a few weeks now since I got noted I'm no longer needed at my job, so I've got laid off. This month is my last and then I'm out of a job with a struggling economy...again I should say. I want to give my full attention to your story and that's why I haven't commented anything yet. My mind and mood hasn't been on top to say the least. Just so that you know, Luc...
Thank you very much!
This is the game that grabbed me and pulled me entirely into video games. I wasn't very interested in computers or consoles at all at the time, but this game changed it all. At the time it made the classic pen-n-paper roleplaying become truly alive...much like I feel when seeing my characters in Skyrim today. Baldur's Gate has it all really - a fantastic worldspace, tactical and strategic fights, a free character creation, classic RPG rules based on D&, a great story, wonderful characters. No wonder I got hooked!
The guy you talk about in the game made me so frustrated the first time I met him, I simply ran off the map immediately to get away from him!
He's part of my dawn in video games, and just like all the other characters from this game he's quite dear to me. I plan on remaking the rest of them too...
Nice set !
Many thanks!
My route to Oblivion and skyrim went through the books from Raymond E Feist . One of of them was also made into a video game. That got me hooked to the genre in the end.
Heard a lot of good stuff about Baldur's gate though,.. so it must be a cool game to play,..
This character looks pretty cool,..
I've also read a few books by Feist, but at the time I found Baldur's Gate I read mostly Conan novels, stories of Elric of Melnibone and similar heroic tales. Reading, playing, depicting and gaming about fantasy worlds has been a great interest of mine since I was about 13 years old I believe. Today I'm 44 with an imagination that succeeds even my childhood years.
Baldur's Gate is a tremendous game, although it's very old if you want to compare it with the graphics of video games today. It has something that most modern games lack of though - a soul. It's a story well told and the game can be difficult at times, but the nostalgic part of me says it's still the best game I've ever played - especially BG 2 - and like I said, I'm grateful I played it right after it's release. I plan on making all the characters (the followers that is) from this game serie, so be ready to get to know them...
It's always fun to create characters from other games and you did a fantastic job creating this character my friend. A amazing SNC set,
It's never too late to pick up a RPG classic! It's after all the very game that gave birth to Bioware and all their big RPG titles and I know you like them. It's also a game entirely based on the D& rules, so even if the graphics are longtime outdated by now, the game have a core that's incredible and truly appeals the heart of a RPG-fan. There's an Enhanced Edition you can pick up rather cheap and at GOG.com they often have a sellout of the entire serie...and I promise you, it's many, many hours of classic roleplaying we're talking about with a tremendous story through two games (well, three now actually with the release of Siege of Dragonspear). Sometimes I feel very lucky this was my first real game I truly loved (and still love), and like I've said, I still play it today on occasion.
You will get very familiar with some of the characters from Baldur's Gate, because I plan on remaking them all for the SNC event. It was actually my original idea, for the premiere of Saturday Night Celebrities, but then Tanja suggested we should do Dragon Age, and that's what we started with...
Many thanks and I agree, it's a lot of fun making characters from other games. Helps me keep my mind off from other stuff in my life at the moment too. Also, truly thank you for your pm a few days ago. Very much appreciated, my friend, and I will reply soon...
" Magic is impressive but now Minsc leads. Swords for everyone ! "
My love for Baldur's Gate is as deep as my love for The Elder Scrolls. <3
Thanks for the good ol' memory you bring Rick !
Thanks for THIS shot ! Keep up the good work !
Take care !
I can also let you in on a secret...and that is, my intension for a few weeks to come is to make more characters from the Baldur's Gate-serie. I've already done Dynaheir and the idea was to upload her together with Minsc at first, but I decided to give away one character at the time. So yes, next Saturday there will be Dynaheir and after that even more to come...
Thank you!
"Butt-kicking for goodness!"
Extremely well done.
I found skyrim still looking for another game as good as BG series. I'm still looking.
If I can suggest, maybe after the Dynaheir set, you could done a set with Dynaheir & Minsc (& Boo) together, with(out) Gnolls ? Haha !
That's one epic chinchilla to hold such a great name! That miniature giant space hamster sure left fond memories and I still smile everytime Minsc talks about him...
"Boo likes the forest"
Thank you very much! The characters from "Baldur's Gate" set the bar extremely high for interactive followers in games which can be seen in "Mass Effect", " Dragon Age ", etc. I agree though, it's very difficult to find a game that can reach the full grandness of Baldur's Gate-series. Skyrim is great for exploring, adventures and character creation, but it lacks in storytellings. I played "Neverwinter Nights" - both 1 and 2 - for a long time, but my best tip for you today would probably be "Pillars of Eternity" if you haven't already checked it out.
Baldur's Gate is still untouchable though...
That would be grand for sure, but alas I can't track Boo down...
I have many more Baldur's Gate-characters to choose from, so I think I will get through them all one after one...
