I only got this for the first time recently, and all I had installed was a new weapon and shield mod - and I find it unlikely that they would directly be the cause. But perhaps I have reached the limit of how many items I can safely introduce into Skyrim...
I have noticed that these polygons only appear on the "magic" effects that hover like fireflies over highlighted menu items (even the player menu). Though I'm not sure why this relatively harmless graphical glitch is a precursor to CTDs.
This is usually the 'warning sign' for an imminent ctd. I've played around with ini settings and gotten the game fairly stable here and there, but when I ctd it's almost always on the inventory, and this appears almost immediately beforehand.

Welp...at least its a common problem.
