About this mod

Gameplay-friendly ReShade preset that adds a Retro/VHS effect and photorealistic lighting, providing a substantially different feel to the game.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Requires ReShade to work.

The preset does not use depth data and is compatible with DLSS, FSR, and Multiplayer.

Make sure ReShade is toggled off for responsiveness and clarity in the in-game menus.

This is my first mod. Please be nice.

What the mod does:

  • Adds a retro-style filter to the game, emulating footage associated with 1980s-90s TV broadcasts and VHS tapes.
  • Makes ambient lighting look brighter and far more realistic via color correction.
Additional features:
  • More extreme contrast and eye adaptation between indoors/outdoors.
  • New true-black shades, which are missing from the vanilla game.
  • Emphasized details via sharpening filter.

Important things to note:

  • Set your brightness to 180 when first using this mod, as it was made for the game at minimum brightness. You can increase it if you're having problems seeing in dark spaces.
  • This mod will decrease visual clarity in certain gameplay situations (enemies may be harder to see), but the effects have been carefully fine-tuned to keep the game decently playable.
  • The mod was tested at 1080p resolution. Higher or lower resolutions may not work as well.
  • Due to the design of the mod, I can't make separate versions for realistic lighting and the retro filter. They must be used together for now.

How to adjust the "fuzziness" of the filter:

(There is one effect in the preset allowing you to adjust the intensity of the blur/fuzz while keeping the main effect.)

  • Open the ReShade menu in-game.
  • Scroll to the "VHS_RA" effect.
  • Adjust the "Chroma Smear" slider until it looks good. Keep the value between 10 and 60.

By default the value is 30, which is a good balance between clarity and authenticity.

How to turn off motion blur & fish-eye:

  • Open the ReShade menu in-game.
  • Uncheck the "vort_Motion" and/or "FISHEYE_CA" effects.
Other known issues:

  • Motion blur will distort the crosshair when the camera is moving. You can turn off motion blur using the above instructions.
  • Sandstorm weather looks too bright with the new ambient lighting. You can work around this by adjusting the Exposure slider in "AdaptiveTonemapper" to around -3.000 in sandstorm levels. -2.250 is the default.
HOW TO INSTALL:

  • Make sure ReShade is installed into the same location as SixDays-Win64-Shipping.exe
  • Extract both the "reshade-shaders" folder and ReShadePreset.ini into that location. Replace the files.
  • Run the game!
