Lengshire. Someone long ago asked the question: What if you took Henry Wydeland's urban design for Port Wydeland and optimized it? A wide city block with a long street to access all of it, but more compartmentalized. And importantly for the land owners and investors, the city would need to be designed to keep the social classes properly seperated, but still afforded an equal geographical shot of an opportunity, at least in theory.

Divided by Council Square, hosting the city council facing the central square, Lengshire's East End and West End sprung up from seperate spheres of investors. Shippers and industrialists on one side, multi-national marketing companies on the other side. From the beginning, the docks were all placed on the north and south shores of the East End and these never expanded to the West due to successful lobbying from generations of West End land owners. As such, working class accomodations, factories and warehouses are mostly located on the East End, the closer to the docks the better. As the West End developed and grew taller, more successful lobbying brought on a height restriction on all buildings in the East End, spurred from the need to preserve the the skyline for arriving cruise ship passengers. Only the factory chimneys could get an exemption to the height limit due to practical considerations, and as such you can see the smoke stacks rising over the East End streets.

In Lengshire, the East End is where to go if you want to pawn your goods quickly or get a cheap pint from one of the many pubs. On the counterpoint, the West End is where you want to go for anything related to sync disks, because that's where the clinics are. All the East End can offer you is a nasty backyard clinic that is only sometimes open.

And when you're looking for a place to live and the hotel isn't cutting it? Well don't be disturbed, the two cheapest apartments you can buy that aren't basements both come with a fantastic view of a neon sign that will glow through your window throughout the night. That's what they say, you get what you pay for in Lengshire.
