About this mod

A separate game mode in which you can fight bosses and minibosses in any order as many times as you want

Requirements
Permissions and credits
This mod is intended for Sekiro v1.04 (before October 2020). It may get updated if there's interest in keeping around as a dedicated game mode.

Key features:
- Select bosses and minibosses from the Dilapidated Temple Sculptor's Idol and also warp from one to the next
- Win money and XP from bosses and minibosses to get items and upgrades
- Many many small conveniences and skips

An enemy counts as a boss if defeating them gives you a Memory. Boss names also have a different in-game appearance than miniboss names. Most of the minibosses in the game are also available in the mod through an optional miniboss menu.

Check out Boss Rush Mod No Damage Run from 옹발이 to see the mod in action!

This mod includes over 2000 new lines of in-game scripting, 1000 param edits, and 1000 map changes. A lot has changed. I would recommend using a separate mod folder than you use for normal playthroughs, as it will be a pain to merge and then later unmerge. This can be configured in modengine.ini.

Similar to my other major gameplay mod Bloodborne Combat, I would not recommend it for first playthroughs, but rather to reexperience the game's content with new gameplay elements and new challenges. Fromsoft games are never unreasonably difficult - they are tough but fair - and I aim for the same thing here. As always, hit me up if you've actually played the mod and have thoughts on balancing or features to add.

Gameplay details
Warping
From the Dilapidated Temple Sculptor's Idol, you can select any boss or miniboss and be transported straight to that fight. If you are victorious, you can continue to any other undefeated boss or go back to Dilapidated Temple. Bosses and minibosses can be replayed infinitely. If you die in a fight, the fight will restart. The Homeward Idol animation has been made a lot faster (as in the Faster Homeward Idol mod) so that you can either escape back to the temple or restart the fight.

Warping to a boss puts you directly in their arena, no cutscenes required. The arenas are meant to be hermetic, because the rest of the game world interferes with the mod in various ways. This means that fog gates remain up, doors remain closed, and so on. If you do find a means of escape let me know!

Gourds and health refill automatically when warping from one boss to the next. Spirit Emblem refills require a visit back to Dilapidated Temple.

Rewards
For all bosses, the first time you defeat them you get a bulging coin purse (1000 sen) and their memory, and the first time you defeat them charmless with Bell Demon you get a heavy coin purse (500 sen). On first and repeat fights you will get XP. Bosses may also unlock shop items. Minibosses drop 500 sen the first time and some consumables.

See below for a full listing of the current rewards and shop contents. You can get to full healing and prayer beads over the course of a run without the challenge modifiers if you don't lose money on death, but not enough to invest heavily in prosthetics or consumables. With challenge modifiers, you can get everything.

Mechanics
The mod streamlines many game mechanics, limiting the game to boss arenas and the Dilapidated Temple. The idol replaces game NPCs, letting you upgrade your prosthetics, healing gourd, resurrection nodes, and manage Kuro's charm and the Bell Demon. Note that going charmless will apply to all future playthroughs, so if you are a speedrunner you may want to back up your save file just in case.

NG+ also works. The shop will exclude most items you have already bought - just don't buy any extra Gourd Seeds or Prayer Beads if you're already at max gourd or vitality because you won't be able to use them.

Dragonrot is present but it currently doesn't do much. It is much more trouble than it's worth to patch out the first warp back to the temple, but it shouldn't be an issue after that.

Here is a list of just some of the small conveniences added:
- Skip the Ashina Reservoir tutorial segment
- Item pickups and drops do not pause the game
- No in-game tutorial popups
- No cutscene on first death
- No slow-walk areas
- Exchange multiple gourd seeds and multiple prayer necklaces at once
- Sold out items are removed from the shop

Installation
This mod uses Sekiro Mod Engine.
1. Download and unzip BossRush.zip directly in your Sekiro game directory - "C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Sekiro" by default. The zip archive contains only a folder called "bossrush", which contains the mod files.
2. I would recommend using the mod by itself, or at least separately, which you can do by editing modengine.ini to change modOverrideDirectory="\bossrush" and useModOverrideDirectory=1. Otherwise, copy the directories (event, map, msg, etc.) into your existing mod folder.
3. Once installed, start up the game, and select New Game to begin the mod. Do not use a preexisting playthrough with this mod. I will not fix any bugs that arise in this case, as it will make certain items unobtainable and the playthrough potentially uncompletable.

This mod is intended for the 1.04 patch. To my knowledge, it works on the 1.02 patch, but it does bring in literally all of the params, scripts, and maps from 1.04. I would recommend using 1.04 if at all possible, since in the case of any bugs that may result from mismatches I can't support 2 versions at once.

Finally, if you've played the mod and liked it, or disliked it, or have any feedback at all, lemme know.

Compatibility with other mods
As mentioned above, a lot has changed, and all of those changes are necessary for the mod to function. Still, in case you are interested in merging with other params, these param files are edited: EquipMtrlSetParam, EquipParamGoods, EquipParamWeapon, ItemLotParam, MenuTutorialParam, PlayRegionParam, ShopLineupParam, SkillParam.

Acknowledgements
This mod would not be possible without many people from the Souls modding discord: SoulsFormats and Yapped by TKGP with layouts by Pav, DSTools by Katalash, EventScriptTool by HotPocketRemix, and DarkScript by AinTunez. My own dialogue tree compiler/decompiler ESDLang was also used for all changes to menus. (It can also be used to make custom NPC quests - maybe one day.) Learn about these and more in the souls modding discord: https://discord.gg/mT2JJjx. Thanks also to Daravae, Morodriel, and LilAggy from the Sekiro Speedrunning discord on their feedback to streamline the mod and significantly open up the shop at the start.
