About this mod

The new Secret of Mana remake is too easy, mostly because you can DPS much faster than the original game, especially the bosses. This is a quick fix for this problem that simply triples the HP values of every enemy and boss in the game (with the last boss optional because it is not technically affected by this problem).

The new Secret of Mana remake is too easy, mostly because you can DPS much faster than the original game, especially the bosses. This is a quick fix for this problem that simply triples the HP values of every enemy and boss in the game (with the last boss optional because it is not technically affected by this problem).

Note that this isn't really a balance change. Except for the last boss, no thought has been put into tweaking individual enemies or bosses. Some enemies and bosses are still probably too easy, and some might be a bit too hard. But, I have played through the whole game this way, and nothing stuck out as being seriously wrong. There were a couple bosses that were hard enough that I had to think about how to approach them, but once I used the right strategy I was able to win. Some bosses aren't so much hard, but rather starting to be tedious, but every time I thought "ok this is taking too long" the fight was over pretty soon.

Overall I feel it's a definite improvement to the way the game feels. Before this change it felt like I was fighting enemies made of paper. Now they feel much more challenging, very close to the original (though they still differ in some crucial ways that a mod like this cannot address).

The "mod" at this point is simply a modified version of one of the game's binary data files, ene_data.bin (in the Media\AI\ folder). Make sure to backup the original version of the file. As long as you keep the original file, you can swap in whichever version you want (exit the game first), so if you get stuck, you could revert to the original file. So make sure to save it (rename it to ene_data.bin.old or something).
