This mod restores the multiplayer and co-op functions from the game using a modified version of OpenSpy's source code. In this mod, characters do save, ranked and normal matches work, and co-op does work as well.

How you doin' Saints? Today i introduce myself uploading this SR2 mod to the site.
Multiplayer in Saints Row 2 is back and greater than ever! Thanks to the openspy team and specially me for the fix, now we get to play this masterpiece of game. This file is a modified version of the exe i made, making it connect directly to the openspy servers so you don't have to. This serves not only for multiplayer: Also helps optimizing the game.
VERY IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE ALONGSIDE D3D9.dll OR ELSE IT WILL CRASH AT "Powered by" SCREEN.

Installation:
Just extract the file and paste it in the root Saints Row 2 Folder. Make sure to make a backup of the file marked for replacement.

Q: Why is my game crashing on startup?
A: This is a very common issue if you have an additional dll in your game folder. The file that causes this is d3d9.dll from OpenSpy, and makes the game crash if using alongside this file. To solve this, simply delete it or move it away from your game folder.
Q: I can not join a game. Why is that?
A: This is due to a variety of reasons:
1) If your game does not crash alongside the dll, multiplayer simply won't work.
2) You have a VPN like Radmin or Hamachi running in the background. Kill/stop the task in task manager and disable it in adapter settings.
3) Your firewall is blocking sr2_pc.exe. Disable this in your Firewall settings.
4) Both the host and client need the Vanilla patch from Gentlemen of the Row.
5) It can be the game itself: "Repacks, rips, etc..." do not work. If not, re-install the game.
6) Either you/the host have very poor connection, or the lobby is full.
Q: Can i use mods on multiplayer?
A: If you're talking about Co-op: Yes, but both host and client need the same exact mods. In case of multiplayer: absolutely not.
Q: How can i import a character from an specific save game?
A: Characters usually load from the very recent save. If and old save was last saved with Gentlemen of the Row, load the save from that patch and save it again. You can now import it to multiplayer using the vanilla patch.
Q: Why is my character naked, hairless and eyeless?
A: You have a custom Gentlemen of the Row patch installed. Replace this with the vanilla patch.
