About this mod

A better experience even in your first playthrough by reducing spread/bloom and some minor weapon balance tweaks. I can't play without it now! Based on Mr.BoobieBuyer's amazing Dynamic Weapon Profiles (this is a profile for it). Thumbnail C96 pic by M62/Wikipedia

Deal with bloom while being faithful to the original
A weapon profile/mod that it's meant to be as faithful as possible to the original's balance but reducing overall spread/bloom and tweaking a few guns. Changes are as conservative as they come, just without some of its gunplay annoyances (especially excessive bloom).

Accuracy and focus tweaks
  • Moving the camera ("flicking" as it's known) does no longer reduce focus on ANY gun - First time I see a shooter that reduces your accuracy when FLICKING, one of the fundamental ways of how you aim!
  • Focus on all handguns, SMGs and magnums (except the Killer 7) has been reworked: standing still now focuses MUCH faster, and moving and shooting takes away less focus - Focus was almost permanently at a maxed reticle unless you stood still for a very long time
  • Red9's and Broken Butterfly's spread is now the same as Blacktail's - The Red9 got a RoF and damage nerf coming from the OG game, it doesn't need to blank shots at point blank on top of it. Regarding the Broken Butterfly: it makes no sense for a magnum with super bad ammo economy to be that inaccurate, it should feel extremely powerful
  • TMP's spread is the same as the OG LE5
  • The moving spread of the LE5 is the same as a perfectly focused shot on the OG LE5, all the time. A focused LE5 shot is now perfectly accurate. - The LE5 needs this accuracy to properly deal with Regeneradores. It's also OK if the accuracy feels a bit strong as it deals quite a bit less damage than the TMP, encouraging headshots and lining up enemies to be at parity in a straight fight
  • The Bolt Thrower's accuracy is now perfect, and its bolts are 33% faster - Even though the Bolt Thrower can't deal extra damage on headshots, there's no reason for it to have any inaccuracy at all because slow projectiles are, by themselves, already hard to land. I also added a bit of speed to the bolts.
  • I heavily reduced shotgun spread RNG by making spread fixed to the average between max and mix spread. There's still a bit of RNG on the outer pellets, but it's not much - Performance was too random shot to shot to get any kind of consistency and learn how each pattern works, so I changed it
  • I swapped W-870's and Sawed-Off W-870's spread with the Riot Gun's - The Riot Gun had more dps than the W-870 while having very similar damage per shot. It's true the W-870 has a much better chance to stun and dismember enemies as per its Wince, Break, and Stopping Power stats, but I think it makes more sense for the higher dps gun to have less range and consistency. Even with the nerf, in my tests the Riot Gun was still great in Professional runs. Ada's Sawed-Off W-870 deals more damage than the W-870 but loses mag size and stun and dismembering stats, so I decided they didn't need to have different spread as they have tradeoffs enough already
  • The Striker now has the spread of the Skull Shaker - The Striker had way too much spread. While it's still a good gun in the base game with best-in-class DPS and ammo generation, and good crowd control stunning stats, its performance is way too random
  • The Handcannon now has Blacktail's accuracy, and the Chicago Sweeper has OG LE5's accuracy - They're special weapons that void some challenges, basically "cheat" weapons, so might as well let them be fun, bloom's not enjoyable

Other weapon changes
  • Stingray's last level of damage goes from 4.9 to 6 So the CQBR is not a straight upgrade on all stats, even damage per shot, when fully upgrading both. CQBR's dps should still be around 15% better
  • The SG-09 R now has a 35% higher chance to stun (open for a melee), the same as the OG Punisher; to balance this, the Punisher now has a 10% higher chance to stun, stop an enemy and to dismember - It didn't sit well with me that the Sentinel 9 had 25% more dps and a 70% bigger mag than the SG-09 R so I specialized the SG-09 R as the more "combo melee" kind of weapon, which has synergy with the exceptional extra crit chance, as it affects melees too as long as you're holding the weapon
  • I massively increased the chance for the Bolt Thrower to stun and open for a melee when landing a headshot or legshot; like in the OG, upgrading damage increases this chance, and, in this case, the last level of damage massively increases it - The Bolt Thrower is pretty good when used with explosive bolts, but the base version is pretty underwhelming. Based on its hard-coded trait that it stops enemies on every shot, I decided to up it by making headshots/legshots almost always stun (open for a melee)

Installation
Install by dropping it in [game's folder]\reframework\data\DWP, then boot up the game and select in REframeworks menu: Script Generated UI -> DWP profile editing, introduce REbalance and click Add Profile. Then select it in Dynamic Weapon Profiles above it. It will default to this profile once you reboot the game, so no need to do it every time!

Future updates when the mod community finds out how to mod 'em
  • Weapon sway will be fully removed - I've yet to find a single reason why random weapon sway should be in any video game. You already have a natural handshake coming from you using the mouse or controller. Its existence would be like adding blinking to a video game, it makes no sense. On top of that, in a video game, reducing randomness so it doesn't cap player expression is very important and sway is literally an RNG means to make it worse.

Notes
  • Stocks are compatible (and all attachments too!). One mindblowing thing of the original is that stocks do not affect spread or bloom, they affect weapon sway, the reticle, and recoil; so they're still worth it as the Red9's and TMP's sway is terrible, and also because TMP's recoil is pretty harsh
  • It's fully compatible with Mercenaries and the Firing Range! In my opinion, it makes them much more enjoyable
