About this mod

Replaces every background with the original PS1 version.

Requires Gemini's amazing Resident Evil 3 Classic REbirth DLL, which you should *really* be using anyway.

The PC backgrounds were made using an unfinished version of the source, resulting in numerous errors.

Others have made very laudable efforts to replace or fix the most obvious errors one by one (including Capcom themselves for the GameCube version), but that approach has it's limits.

This mod eliminates all such problems entirely by replacing the PC backgrounds with their original PS1 equivalents.

Note that while the PS1 backgrounds *are* technically lower resolution than the PC backgrounds (240p instead of 480p), the PC version still used the PS1 version's 240p mask textures, so 240p backgrounds are really an improvement from a consistency perspective.

To install, be sure you have previously installed Gemini's Resident Evil 3 Classic REbirth DLL, then extract "DATA_A" into your BIOHAZARD 3 PC directory.

If you wish to use it, i have also uploaded what i consider to be an Improvement addon, which includes the following:

  • Biohazard 2 PS1 versions of a few Police Station backgrounds (with the original red soda machines.)
  • The PC versions of the fountain area backgrounds (i think that, unlike the rest of the PC backgrounds, they are more finished, not less)
  • A version of the Uptown: Day "Pipe" background with the PC version of the pipe edited in. (In the PS1 version, the pipe "moves" between the Uptown: Day and Uptown: Night versions of the background, but stays in the same position in the PC version.)
  • A version of the Park entrance with a light that can be seen from other angles was included in the PC version of the background, and has been edited into the PS1 background. However, it is masked out in-game, and is only included here for the sake of completion.
  • A version of the Police Station's main hall with one of the doors edited to match other angles. (Thanks to Kayael for the door source image.)
