The City of the Hell

Overview
The City of the Hell is a high-difficulty overhaul mod and a direct successor to The City of the Dead.
With numerous new gimmicks and mechanics, it delivers an even greater sense of tension and despair—step into a new kind of hell.
Features
  • Significantly increased difficulty
  • Numerous original gimmicks and mechanics added
Recommended Difficulty
Strongly recommended to start on The Shallow of the Hell(Assisted) unless highly confident in your skills.
Only players confident in their skills should attempt The Hell (Standard) or higher difficulties.
Note: The Hell (Standard) in this mod is more challenging than the Higher Difficulty version of The City of the Dead.
Important Notes (Please read carefully)
  • Only the 1st scenario is currently playable. The 2nd scenario is still in development and will take more time to complete, but it is planned to be even more difficult.
  • This mod supports English and Japanese only. You can set any voice language, but using a display language other than English or Japanese may hide key hints, making some sections impossible to progress.

Please confirm that the game mode selection screen displays “Arranged Story”.
  • This mod includes extensive flag modifications, so start from a New Game when first launching this mod. After that, save and load as usual—but do not use this save data in combination with other mods.
The following actions are strongly discouraged or prohibited as they may cause malfunction of gimmicks:
  • Using other mods that overwrite this mod’s files
  • Using Nowhere Safe Mod, regardless of settings (on/off). Uninstallation is strongly recommended.
  • Using external tools that trigger autosaves at unintended times
→ These may interfere with event progression and are not recommended.
Differences Between Difficulties
Enemy placement and core gimmicks are the same across all difficulties, but the following elements vary:
  • Enemy strength based on the in-game Rank system (Rank 0–9):
    • The Shallow of the Hell (Assisted): Rank 3–5 (variable)
    • The Hell (Standard): Rank 5–8 (variable)
    • The Abyss of the Hell (Hardcore): Rank 9 (fixed)
  • Number of sidebags and wooden boards available
  • Ammo yield from crafting (with some exceptions)
  • Availability of autosaves

Known Issues (as of v0.90)
  • In Claire’s route, some levers may emit a buzzer sound even when not powered.
This is due to limitations in Wwise.Tagtrigger and is currently difficult to fix.
  • In the G3 fight, some placed items may not display map icons.
However, all items are still counted properly—collecting all of them will turn the map blue as intended.
