Overview

Our goal has been to provide a fresh challenge for seasoned Remnant players, without altering the core gameplay we love so much. To that end, we’ve added an all-new Hell difficulty; roaming bosses called Challengers; and redesigned Overworlds, Dungeons, sieges and boss fights. These features will push experienced survivors to their limits with increased enemy health, damage, and spawns making fights harder than ever before.

It’s not all tryhard though - gear revamps and all new items purchased with Challenger resources unlock all new synergies and builds for you to play with.

It’s been a blast crafting this experience for ourselves and the community, and we hope it’s something that the Remnant playerbase will enjoy!

Difficulty

Normal difficulty has been removed to make way for a new highest difficulty, Hell. On Hell difficulty, enemy stats like HP and damage have been pushed up linearly, with a few key exceptions:

  • For all spawns that scale with difficulty and player count, spawn numbers and frequency have almost doubled. More spawns have been made to scale as well.

  • While Brute & Elite HP has increased linearly, basic adds have remained at Apocalypse levels to avoid upsetting the TTK balance between different guns; the increased spawns offer enough of a difficulty bump.

  • Bosses have roughly double Apocalypse HP, as we felt bosses were too quick to kill at endgame Apoc, with many killable under 20s or even 10s. At Hell, most phase-skipping or stun-locking is no longer possible, so you have to engage fully with everything the boss has to throw at you.

Playing at Hell difficulty isn’t the only way to play the mod though - while Hell is our vision of what endgame Remnant should look like, all gameplay changes and content can still be experienced at the lower difficulties.

Item Rebalances and New Gear

We rebalanced over 50 existing items with the goal of closing the gap for items that were underused or underappreciated, whilst keeping the ‘top tier’ where they are, with a strict no-nerf policy for existing items.

We’ve also introduced over 50 new items that open up even more options and playstyles for the player!

Overworlds and Dungeons

Overworlds have been revamped to offer more and diverse threats to players, becoming as dangerous to fight through as dungeons. As well as upping enemy counts, we’ve also increased the variety of elite spawns, with some of those rarer elite variants getting more chances to shine.

Challengers

The biggest change to overworlds has been the addition of Challengers - variants of everyone’s favorite bosses that roam around the map, offering a different fight experience outside of their usual arenas.

Defeating these challengers can reward you with Ammo, Scrap, Iron, Lumenite, and Dark Sliver - an all-new resource specific to the new items we’ve introduced.

Faction Warfare

Also new to overworlds and some dungeons are faction wars - hostile enemy factions will now fight each other, opening up new approaches to fights and giving more color to each world. We’ve done our best to keep it vaguely lore-friendly, but if we’ve missed anything, let us know!

Fight Reworks

While the new Hell scaling has already changed things up for every boss fight, we’ve also enhanced specific fights with a few new surprises. The Shroud, Two Lizzes, Raze, Root Mother, Singe, Undying King, and Dreamer-Nightmare fights have all been revamped, with more reimaginings planned for future patches.

FAQ
Q: How do you install/uninstall the mod?
A: All you need to do is:
  • In your game directory, locate the "Paks" folder where the files

      "pakchunk0-WindowsNoEditor.pak" and
      "pakchunk1-WindowsNoEditor.pak" are.
      Steam: steamapps\common\Remnant\Remnant\Content\Paks
      Epic: Epic Games\RemnantFromTheAshes\Remnant\Content\Paks
      MS: XboxGames\Remnant- From the Ashes\Content\Remnant\Content\Paks

  • If your pachunk0 and pachunk1 files have names that end in "_P", rename the files to remove the _P from the end - e.g. rename from "pakchunk0-WindowsNoEditor_P.pak" to just  "pakchunk0-WindowsNoEditor.pak".
  • In the "Paks" folder, create a new folder titled "~Mods".

  • Download the appropriate .pak file from Nexus Mods. For the full mod experience, download the RemnantFromHell.pak, or for the Bug Fixes only, download the VanillaBugfixes.pak, DO NOT USE BOTH.

  • Place the downloaded .pak into the "~Mods" folder.

  • Run Remnant - for the first installation, you may need to launch the game a second time for the game to load properly.

  • To uninstall the mod, simply delete the downloaded .paks from the "~Mods" folder.

IMPORTANT: We recommend that you backup your save files before installing or uninstalling the mod. If you wish to reinstall the mod and continue where you left off, you will need to restore your old save from your modded playthrough.

Q: Do I need the DLC to play the mod?
A: Not necessarily, some items will be locked behind dlc entitlement, but you should still be able to play with some of the content, the best experience however is with all dlc.

Q: Can the mod be played in multiplayer?
A: Yes - but only with Friends. Public play has been disabled to avoid interfering with other players’ saves.

Q: Does the mod work in Survival Mode as well?
A: Yes, all mod features are active in Survival Mode as well, though balancing all the content for Survival was not a release goal. It is something we’ll be looking at in the future though!

Q: What are your plans for the mod after release?
A: We’re adding new content in every area we’ve already built on - new trinkets, armours, and weapons, fights, and rebalances based on player feedback.
