This "ZOOM" is actually caused by the change of the First Person Camera Offset. What I mean is that when we turn on NVG, the game will move our "eyes" forward by 6 cm (approximately).
In other words, our view is not magnified, but the position of our "looking" has changed.
This actually surprised me that void actually noticed the difference between the image intensifier and the eye position, which is actually a very good detail.
But based on the game experience, this makes me question again, is it suitable for game reflection?
IRL, I also have experience in operating NVGs, and you guys here may still have one in your hands. These devices are undoubtedly extremely ergonomic, and they will be infinitely close to 1x with the cooperation of the intensifier tube and the lens group. According to past experience, generally speaking, as long as it is used correctly, it is almost seamlessly connected to human vision.
But the intensifier tube of the NVGs is indeed a few centimeters in front of the eyes. This update reflex this point.
Some problems followed. When we turned on NVG, the vision was "ZOOMED".
Because the FOV of human eyes in reality is very wide, unlike the default 75 in the game, the maximum can only be 120, and most of us are limited by the screen size, so it will be even smaller in perception.
The "viewpoint forward" causes the edge area of the original game screen to be cropped, which looks like the vision is "ZOOMED". This is actually a bit counterintuitive, just like when we walk and fight with periscope, many people may feel dizzy.
Personally, I actually prefer not to move the viewpoint forward when using night vision goggles, that is, to keep the same field of view as when not using them.But the changes in the game are not that big tho.
