About this mod

Various higher res textures, compatible with Steam verion using uMod

Psychonauts HrD

Psychonauts has aged surprisingly well, and with the widescreen resolutions supported on Steam, for the most part you can make the game look crisp and pretty sleek for game over 10 years old... however, some of the textures really give tell tale signs of aging.

Using uMod V1.0 (https://code.google.com/p/texmod/wiki/uMod) simply copy the d3d9.dll into the psychonauts directory, then choose 'run application', you'll need to alt+tab back to uMod when running and add texture/package - add the packages you have chosen and hit the reload button before alt-tabbing back.

You could also use GeDoSaTo (http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?page_id=582) but would need to extract the zip files into the appropriate folder and remove the prepending filname so they are all '0X...dds'. I found it too hard to use (i wanted to add DoF, or see if i could add real reflection to Raz's goggles, maybe even fix the render resolution of the map and shadows... but over my head), and have been changing the names of files to help me so like uMods support of prepended names.

The textures: some are redrawn, and some are upscaled - i'm playing through the game for the first time, so sometimes i see a texture i really want to fix and sometimes i feel just an upscale is ok.

Downloads are split up so you can choose how much you want to update your game.

This is no where near complete!

Interface
I've done many of the major elements of the interface. None of the characters for subtitles though.

Figments
I've been able to use ninjaripper to pull out some models, but it's very time consuming, so doing higher res renders of the items takes time - there's just a few currently.

Characters
The characters i've done is pretty random. I think all the children are done, and so are the teachers, but enimies is very patchy.

Environment
Really only extremely poor texture cases, or ones i've grown tired of looking at.

Figments
I've been collecting textures of them... but there are so many it's crazy, they really need batch upscaling so i've not done any so far - yes it is one of the worse parts of the textures in the game!

Contributions

Welcome! I've tried to bring up most characters textures to 1024 - you can upscale in photoshop, then reduce noise and smart sharpen for generally pretty good result - just a matter of identifying the texture to being with. Even just collecting textures of characters i don't have with uMod, or figments would help.

Bugs

uMod will make a hash of textures that are drawn rather than of the source textures - so there might be times when a hash of a texture already exists in these mods but doesn't show.

Until PsychoTherapy (there's some discussion there too) comes out and i can move the textures over to a more stable mod - don't be surprised is at some point in a game a texture reverts to low-res. If you can identify it, capture it and duplicate the texture that is the same, and let me know :).
