This mod fixes an annoying issue where opening sounds of previously emptied containers play each time player enters a previously visited level or reloads a saved game.
It seems like the issue exists since the release, on all copies of the game and on all platforms.
Steps to reproduce:
Fully empty a container
Turn your back to the container
Save game
Reload previously saved game
Turn around to the container
Now, you can be dozens meters away, but once you'll look in the direction of that container, it will still open and you will still hear the sound like it's near you.

What this mod does:
As of version 1.3, the mod removes only opening sounds of containers, leaving opening animations intact. If you for some reason want to remove both animations and sounds from containers, download v1.2.
I will be glad if someone finds a better solution for this issue, but as of now, missing sounds is a small price to pay for my mental health.
Installation:
Place "patch_fixopeningcontaners_1-3.pak" into "Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Prey\GameSDK\Precache\" alongside patch.pak. All pak files are loaded in alphabetical order.
Uninistallation:
Delete "patch_fixopeningcontaners_1-3.pak".
Note:
The mod can be installed and uninstalled at any time during your playthrough.
