The Jackal is a modification of the Hyena, one of the models received after the company took over Neoprise. The Hyena ran through its fuel cells quickly, especially when firing its gatling gun, and was rather expensive to make due to the amount of aluminium used in its construction. The gatling gun was also very difficult to aim accurately and contributed to the poor fuel efficiency of the design.

Using advanced manufacturing to replace the chassis with steel instead of aluminium, NeoTech removed the troublesome gatling gun and added an extra passenger seat to the rear. Doubling the amount of fuel cells to four means the Jackal is now an effective explorer and scout, able to transit relatively rough ground with ease and go for long distances without refuelling.

While designed for the military as a scout and rapid ground transport for up to three people the Jackal is also popular with colonists who favour remote homesteads, as its ruggedness and speed make visiting the nearest town simple.
