When in turn-based mode, all characters except Black Jacket Fighters are autogranted the passive ability "Tactical Weapon Switch" at character creation (or, in the case of companions, when you first meet them). This ability makes weapon switching a free action, and gives you an Accuracy penalty. If you switch again in the same turn, the duration is increased.
Penalty: -20 Accuracy, additional -2 per level. So at level 1 switching weapons gives you -20 Accuracy, at level 2 it gives you -22, at level 3 it gives you -24, etc.
Duration: One round for each time you switch.
Note that due to how turn-based mode translates time into turns and rounds, the effect will actually be present for 2 rounds- the round when you switch weapons and trigger the effect, and the round after. That struck me as a little too punishing for what I wanted, so I've also set the effect to clear if you score a graze, hit or crit.
Quick Switch talent now ameliorates this accuracy penalty to -10, increased by 1 every level.
Black Jacket subclass: No change from base game.
I wanted weapon switching to be a bit more of an option (taking up a full turn is very limiting) but also still be a bit punishing so you have to really want to use it. I haven't tested this extensively yet so I may modify the accuracy penalty depending on how it feels, but the current numbers seem like an OK balance of giving you a real risk of missing vs not being a complete turn-off. Also considering other penalties instead/in addition, such as lowering defenses, or just straight-up giving you the Distracted affliction. Lemme know what you think if you try this.
Should be compatible with anything; I didn't change anything in the base game with this except for the descriptions of Quick Switch and Black Jacket.
INSTALL
Extract the archive to the PillarsOfEternityII_Data folder
UNINSTALL
Go into PillarsOfEternityII_Data/override and delete the "hftbweaponswitch" folder. Warning! It is completely safe to delete this mod, but if you do so you will go back to taking a whole turn to switch weapons, which is lame!
