About this mod

This mod makes per-rest bonuses permanent, so that they aren't cleared upon resting.

This mod was inspired by this thread on the official Obsidian boards, and especially this post by noqn.

Essentially, there are a number of unique bonuses in Deadfire that can only be obtained once, and you lose once you rest. Other bonuses, which can be acquired multiple times, require you to backtrack to various locations and go through several loading screens, which is kind of a chore.

As the aforementioned thread says, you may collect all bonuses together and go for a no-rest run to keep them alongside noqn's very own No Forced Rests mod. However, there's something about no-rest runs that's always rubbed me the wrong way. From a role playing perspective, it is so unrealistic (for want of a better word) for characters to never rest and never get tired, that there's no mental somersault I can make to justify it.

At the same time, going out of your way to collect all bonuses just to see them disappear as soon as your party rests can be a bit of a bummer—and even if you keep them by means of a no-rest run, you are thus forced to stick to the food or inn bonus you had when you first acquired them. Though some players may enjoy the challenge, others may simply find it inconvenient.

Hence this mod to make those bonuses permanent, so you won't have to worry about losing them, having to stick to the same food or inn bonuses forever, or doing a completely out-of-character no-rest run.

The mod comes in three files:

  • permanent.gamedatabundle : the meat and potatoes of this mod. It turns the following bonuses into permanent ones: Adratic Glow, Amira's Blessing, Dawnstar's Blessing, Nature's Resolve, all brothel/prostitute bonuses, and all shrine bonuses.
  • wardstones.gamedatabundle : as the self-explanatory name implies, this file turns all wardstones permanent. You'll only ever need one wardstone of each kind and you'll be set for the rest of the game. As some players may find this removes too much challenge from the game, I kept it in its own separate file so it can be removed from the mod with ease.
  • adrapotion.gamedatabundle : turns the +2 Skill bonus of the adra potion into a permanent one. I've kept it separate as it's just borderline related to this mod, as the potion can be crafted and consumed many times throughout the game.

* * NEW IN v 1.2.0 * *

Added Magran's Blessing to the list of bonuses made permanent in permanent.gamedatabundle.

* * NEW IN v 1.4.0 * *
Added Alchemic Brawn, Alchemic Guile, and Alchemic Wits to the list of bonuses made permanent in permanent.gamedatabundle.

Known issues : even though I've included a text file to remove the "until Rest" portion of the adra potion's skill bonus, the game just won't use my file and the potion's bonus still reads "until Rest." If you know how to make it work, let me know and I'll fix it.

Found a bug? No problem. Leave a comment and I'll endeavor to fix it.
