Removes some skill specialities from certain crew members thereby allowing them to achieve skill mastery in others.
PSA: If you didn't know, crew can only level up a fixed amount of times (3-4 times depending on starting skills) which is why this mod is needed. If you put crew in a position they aren't trained in it will be a waste if you are trying to make them be 4*.
This Mod: modifies starting crew skills so they start at 1* in just one skill. So you still need to level up the crew by winning sea battles, but you can now achieve a fully staffed crew who all have 4* Mastery in their roles. I've set things up for my preference so if you don't like it, well... don't use the mod. Bias goes to crew mates you come across in the wild as opposed to those you hire at the inns/ports.
For example: Birta the Ogre; I have removed her 1 point in the Cooking skill and so she just has 1 skill point in Helmsman. I like the idea of a strong ogre manning the helm in storms but it bugged me that she couldn't "be the best". Now, as long as I leave Birta at the helm position, she can reach 4*.
Essentially, stick crew you find ONLY in spots where they have 1* and watch them grow! Combined with the crew for hires that only have 1 starting skill speciality you should have no problem filling your ship with the best crew in the Deadfire!
COMPATIBILITY:
-Designed on game version 5.0.0.0040
-Definitely works if you never met the crew-mate before;
-If you have already hired the crew-mate then I think as long as they haven't levelled a skill yet it should work. I think. YMMV.
-Should be compatible with pretty much any other mod that isn't touching skill values for crew.
INSTALLATION:
Add BetterCrew folder to your Override directory.
REMOVAL:
Remove the BetterCrew folder from your Override directory.
