About this mod

Allows you to fully respec NPC companions.

Permissions and credits
Some companions have inefficient attribute distributions, unwise feat picks, and classes that apparently better choices present, that they nearly drive me mad. While I can edit their stats with Toy Box easily, I still wish that I had an option to fully respec them and start over from level 0.

I do know that there is a respecialization mod, but it's somewhat buggy and sometimes removes or keeps stuff that shouldn't. It has a github repository but it's a pain to totally debug a comprehensive mod you didn't create. If you are a fellow developer, you know what I'm talking about. Here I decided to make my own.

This mod directly patches vanilla respec (Hilor's respec). You may use this mod in conjunction with Toy Box, since it uses vanilla respec codes rather than making its own and should cause no issues. It's recommended not to use this mod alongside with something else that heavily patches vanilla respec.

What you can change?
  • Racial heritage
  • +2 attribute selection for Human, Half-Elf and Half-Orc
  • Attribute spreads (suspended)
  • Skill check spreads
  • Classes, class features and feats

What you cannot change?
  • Race
  • Background selection
  • Deity selection
  • Alignment
  • Portrait, appearance, voice, and character name

Edge Cases
  • The Hybrid race has +2 Str & Dex, and +2 in any one attribute, rather than +2 Str & Dex & Con you might have thought of. You don't know that because you cannot use the Hybrid race to build a character. Lann and Wenduag both select +2 Con in vanilla. You may change this selection by respec. You may change the selection to Str or Dex, gaining +4 in total, or you may change the selection to Cha to neutralize the -2.

Known Issues
  • Not working correctly with Graveguard companions from Lich mythic path.
  • (JUST IN CASE) If some companions are joining your party as level 0, do NOT level-up them, instead respec them and let me know which companion is still joining your party as level 0. Woljif and Sosiel should no longer do.
  • Removing this mod from an on-going save after a full respec breaks the companion in some way that sometimes they gain ghost levels and ghost feats. (Explained: In vanilla everytime an NPC is generated and everytime an NPC level-up, the game checks if they have the pre-defined class levels of their Owlcat template, if not, they gain that many class levels and pick feats according to the selection chart defined in the template. The same selection chart is used by the game when you auto-level your companions. If you have the mod One Feat Per Level, some feats that should be selected by the template at higher levels are already selected to fill the gap. Also, respecing a companion is actually generating a new companion, replacing the current one. This mod prevents the game to add pre-defined class levels to a companion when they respec or level-up, restricting this feature to character initial generation only. Removing this mod from an on-going save re-enables this unwanted feature and resulting your companions to gain ghost levels and ghost feats.)

User Reported Issues
When I find my time to confirm them I either fix them or move them to the Known Issues.
  • Unable to proceed when picking Bloodlines.
  • Companion NPC becomes invisible and unable to be talked to after a full respec. Leaving the area and coming back fixes it.
  • Fully respecing Greybor breaks him in some way. More details required.
  • Some enemies have 1 HP. Possibly due to not getting their class levels properly.

How to Install

  • Run Unity Mod Manger and set it up to find Wrath of the Righteous
  • Download this mod
  • Install the mod by dragging the zip file from step 5 into the Unity Mod Manager window under the Mods tab

How to Fix My Broken Companion
My tests did not break anything, but since it's a mod, things can break in unexpected ways. If your companion is broken in some way, you may uninstall this mod and respec the broken companion again, and they should be fixed. If they are still broken, that's a bug with vanilla.
