About this mod

Fixes guard behavior when player offers to end combat. Without this fix, pacified guards will continue chasing the player like a stalker, restarting dialogue 'You're under arrest!' over and over—making it difficult to escape this loop.

WHAT IS THIS?
Did you know that you can propose to guards (and NPCs) to stop fighting in vanilla game (default keys: Block + Action, usually RMB* + E)?
right mouse button

This mod enhances gameplay by correcting guard behavior when attempting to stop a fight. Essentially, this is a fix. (Keep in mind, that breaking the fight does not remove any bounty).

In the vanilla game, guards have an AI flaw that makes them relentlessly pursue the player, repeatedly triggering the "You're under arrest!" dialogue even after accepting a truce and halting combat. This creates an irritating loop that is difficult to escape from. To break free, players had to time their movements perfectly—stepping back immediately after the break and sprinting away. However, even that wouldn't stop that guard from chasing the player like a relentless Terminator, continuously restarting the dialogue announcing you're under arrest due to an active bounty!

👍🏻 With this fix, after guards agree and stop fighting, they will simply turn away and resume their previous activities as intended in the original design, finally making their AI more natural and the 'no-combat' option a viable choice to enrich gameplay. Simple as that.

NOTICE: of course vanilla gameplay is untouched, this means that this mod actually applies only for a bounty <500. Above that value the guards, by original game design, will start chasing & attacking player on sight anyway.
Not perfect: if opponent is too close when you surrender, you can still be caught in the loop.

INSTALLATION
Default procedure: put it as usual with the other .esp mods under "...\OblivionRemastered\Content\Dev\ObvData\Data\" and add it in your Plugins.txt list.

FAQ

Q: wait, are you saying this will prevent guards from chasing/attacking player after any crime?
A: not at all. Nothing has changed in normal gameplay, except when you send a surrender request to the guard: in this case, if that guard will like you enough, he'll stop fighting accepting your surrender (but won't remove the bounty, for attacking him for example).
Then (and here is my mod contribution...) the guard will simply turn away, and won't glitch out pursuing player forever as in vanilla. Of course guards will still chase and arrest player when the bounty is too high, that's the default gameplay...

Enjoy!
