If you also have the extreme first world problem of trying to run a 20-year-old Bethesda game on your $4k+ high end PC, then this is the mod for you! This is the first release in the "Luxury Visuals" series, a collection of mods aimed at maximizing the visual fidelity of Oblivion Remastered for higher-end systems, targeting true 4K HDR at 100+ FPS.

Luxury Visuals - HDR, focuses on enabling true High Dynamic Range (HDR) using Unreal Engine, and includes carefully tuned engine variables to improve the game's appearance when using HDR.

What This Mod DOES:

  • Enables True HDR Output: Activates Unreal Engine's native HDR pipeline for a vastly expanded range of brightness and color, making Oblivion Remastered look stunning on compatible HDR displays.
  • Optimized HDR Parameters: Provides a set of carefully configured engine settings for:
- HDR display output (calibrated with a 1000-nit OLED HDR display using a wide color gamut (Rec.2020)
- Balanced UI brightness and composition in HDR.
- Resolves reticle ghosting when using HDR + DLSS Frame Gen + Transparency (works with Better Reticle mod!)
- Improved eye adaptation for smoother transitions between light and dark areas.

  • Enhanced Visuals tailored to HDR: Includes tweaks to:
- Skylight intensity for deeper, more  natural shadows and lighting.
- Volumetric fog appearance.
- Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion (RTAO) enabled.
- Ray Tracing culling radius for better distant views with RT reflections.

  • DLSS Auto Exposure: Enables DLSS Auto Exposure if you have DLSS selected.

What This Mod Does NOT Do:

  • It is *NOT* a ReShade preset. This mod directly utilizes Unreal Engine's native capabilities and will not carry the same performance hit as ReShade. (I see ~1-3 FPS reduction on a RTX 4090.)
  • It will not fix core problems with Oblivion Remastered or file your taxes, sorry. I hope to find more improvements in the future, but janky 2006 Bethesda code driving a poorly optimized Unreal Engine 5 implementation is ... special.

Compatibility & Recommended Settings:

Requires a true HDR-capable monitor and Windows properly configured for HDR output. This mod will not look correct on SDR displays.

HDR Plus was created with in-game brightness set to 0.  You can adjust in game brightness to your preference. It will work with any settings but I recommend using High or Ultra Global Illumination and HW Lumen on High for the best appearance. I also use DLSS Quality with Frame Generation enabled. 

If you are using other mods that heavily alter lighting, shadows, or global illumination, it is recommended to only install one of the HDR presets and only add optional visual tweaks that will not conflict with other mods that change the same CVars (see Readme).

Installation:
Note: As of v1.1 HDR Plus now requires UE4SS. Older versions are still available as a pak mod with more limited features. 

Using Vortex: Install with Vortex and the FOMod menu will guide you through installation.

Manual Installation:
  • Download the mod archive.
  • Extract the archive to your UE4SS directory (See readme for more detailed instructions)

Uninstallation:

Using a Mod Manager: Disable and uninstall the mod through your mod manager.

Manual Uninstallation: Delete the Luxury Visuals HDR Plus folder from your UE4SS Mods directory

A Note from the Author:

This is my first mod for Oblivion Remastered, born from a desire to experience the game in its best possible light on modern displays. I was frustrated with the vanilla experience and spent considerable time trying to add basic functionality the game should have shipped with. These settings are tuned to my personal tastes and yours may differ. I may release a UE4SS version, or a more modular FOMod installer, to make more variations available.  See Version 1.1!

The "Luxury Visuals" Series - Future Goals:

The overarching goal for Luxury Visuals is to push Oblivion Remastered to its visual limits on capable hardware. Future planned releases will aim to:

  • Optimize Virtual Texture Streaming: Tackle texture pop-in by fine-tuning Unreal Engine's VT settings (designed for GPUs with 24GB+ VRAM).
  • Reduce Hitching & Stuttering: Implement engine-level changes to reduce stuttering where possible. 
  • Enhance Memory Management: Improve how the game utilizes system and GPU memory.
  • Tune Upscaling: Further optimize DLSS, and potentially XeSS, for the best image quality and performance.
