About this video

Some of NorthernUI's INI settings are now exposed through a new in-game menu. Cobbled it together in a day.

Two options are demonstrated: the render resolution for the local map (vanilla default is 256; NorthernUI default is 1024); and a feature that suppresses all the DLC spam during the intro. In the latter case, you can see HUD notifications about DLC items and map markers being added, but there aren't any modal dialogs interrupting play.

Since you have gained clue about map rendering, perhaps you can help me find one as well. I have a limited-resolution game on a limited-capability machine (actually a VM). If I put Oblivion in high-resolution it's totally unusable, like a frame rate of 3. I am able to install hi-rez textures for a few things (mostly skin, so the NPCs don't look terrible). Have found a workable balance.

I've tried several of the color world maps, and all of them so far come out pixellated and unusable, basically. People say "turn on high resolution textures in Oblivion", but I can't, and I don't want EVERY texture to be hi-rez, I just want the map to not look like crap. The local map (also using a colorized version) is fine.

Oblivion's texture resolution option also applies to the UI. From what I understand, it tells the game whether to use the Menus, Menus80, or Menus50 folders (high/medium/low). You could try copying all of the Menus-folder textures overtop the Menus80 and Menus50 folders.

I think I maybe already did try that, but will try it again in case I borked it up the first time.

Didn't work. I may try editing the vanilla ones and pasting in the color map, and making sure the saved texture files are exactly the same format.

So how does playing with a gamepad feel? Is it comparable to the Xbox 360 version of Oblivion?

      Never played it on Xbox.

Feels all right. Movement is a little weird, since the game just maps the joystick to WASD under the hood and uses different speeds for strafing, backstepping, and moving forward. Sometimes you'll lock into an unexpected direction if you try to move diagonally. I did look into adding true 360-angle movement, but made no progress; the movement code is just bizarre.
