Being asked to give some advice to young modders ...
I have 4 rules and one reflection on this:
Rule No. 1: There's no rule No. 1
Rule No. 1: Only mod for games YOU like to play so that - at least :) - YOU have pleasure while testing them ...
Rule No. 1: Know your game so you know what players "expect" so you can play with these expectations - being "original" means you go BEYOND the original ...
Rule No. 1: Never publish before you're sure it will improve YOUR gameplay ...
And as a reflection, if earning a living working for a game company, you must channel your work to the publication deadline but as a modder you might meander with the flow and see where THAT gets you :)
