I'm just now finding out 'bout Ruin and am I glad I found you active and working on him too. Nice intro video! I gotta ask, r u planning on releasing the voice version of Ruin or is it "just for personal use"? as they say LOL. Also would like to ask u if the mod works good, 'cuz I read some comments on his page that made me doubt 'bout instaling it.
I am indeed planning on releasing it when I am finished. It has proven to be quite a time-consuming project, however. Making the voices sound acceptable using xVASynth is pretty challenging. I am soldiering through though! I am voicing every NPC in the mod, which is part of the reason it's taking so long as well.
Regarding the actual Ruined-Tails Tale mod, I guess that's up to personal preference. I am a fan, but admittedly I played it the first time a long time ago, so I might be colored by some nostalgia as well! The mod has its quirks, but I don't really hold that against it, since it's quite old and was very ambitious for its time. If you're not opposed to philosophical debates in a video game, and are willing to be patient with its quirks once in a while, I think it's very worthwhile playing. The story is pretty great, in my opinion.
Hi!: thanks so much for the reply, everything u say I like LOL, can't wait to see (and hear) what u did with this mod. Hope u r doing good and keep sharing your magic!
Thanks! I've had that same view on xVASynth for a while – that it is a cool piece of software, but ultimately too limited to be used as an actual alternative to real voice acting. While it's certainly still not perfect, I was surprised at how much control it provides over the inflection and timing, which makes “acting”, as you call it, an actual possibility. It takes quite a bit of work to tweak it, though. Just pasting the quote into the software and clicking “generate” will often lead to the “struggling to read lines” result.
There's still some “robotic” distortion happening, however, and whether that is acceptable is up to personal thresholds, I guess. The fact that the Argonian voice is already so raspy definitely helps hide some of this.
