Description
===========
This mod adds a first person Free Look capability. This allows you to use
the middle mouse button, or your 'Change View' key, to look around the
world in a simulated first person mode, while you continue to walk or
run in a different direction.

Background
==========
Sadly, the developers at Bethesda did not provide a way for you look
around their beautiful world, in first person and on foot, without
forcing you to move in the direction you were looking.

In Oblivion, when you press the middle mouse button the camera switches
to vanity mode. Vanity mode allows you to view your character in third
person from any angle and direction. Some will argue that this provides
the ability to look around the world while you continue to move in a
different direction. Unfortunately, you have to see yourself in that
world, and this makes it immersion breaking for those that like to stay
in first person. In addition, your body ends up blocking some of the
scenery you wanted to see in the first place and you end up having to
continuously move the camera so that your body isn't in the way.

This mod attempts to rectify these problems.

Details
=======
There are three ESPs included in this archive:

EnableFreeLook.esp
EnableFreeLookNoWheel.esp(new in 1.5)
EnableFreeLookOBSE.esp(updated in 1.5)

Unlike previous releases of this mod, you should only use a SINGLE ESP
now. If you do not use the Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE), then do not
use the OBSE version.

EnableFreeLook.esp
------------------
The EnableFreeLook ESP is for people that don't use OBSE. If you don't
have a mouse wheel then this mod won't work for you. You need to use
EnableFreeLookNoWheel.esp.

Unlike the OBSE version, this mod has no impact on system performance.
However, it does have a visual anomaly that some people may not like.
And, it requires you to perform a set up step.

Setting up the Free Look camera:

You need to hold down the middle mouse button to switch into vanity
camera mode. Then, scroll the wheel forward (while still holding it
down) until the camera is inside your body. You may have to hold down
the scroll wheel multiple times to get the camera all the way inside
your body.

Once the camera is inside your body, your body should disappear and you
should be presented with a semi first person view. At this point, you
can release the scroll wheel.

Now that the set up is complete; anytime that you want to look around
while walking or running, hold down the scroll wheel. You can now rotate
the camera 360 degrees to look around you, all without affecting the
direction you are travelling in.

Rather than holding down the mouse wheel, you can also hold down the key
assigned to the 'Change View' functionality in the game's
Options/Controls menu. By default the 'Q' key is assigned to that
functionality.

You will see a brief flash of your character from the inside when you
activate the Free Look camera. This is the anomaly I mentioned. If you
can't live with seeing yourself for half a second, then you should
consider using the OBSE version.

To get back to the old vanity camera functionality, hold down the middle
mouse button and move the camera back outside of your body with the
scroll wheel.

See the Technical Details and Known Issues sections if you are
interested in how/why this mod works.

EnableFreeLookNoWheel.esp
-------------------------

WARNING: This is an extreme version of EnableFreeLook.esp. It was
developed for a very specific type of user. If you choose to
use this mod, it should not be loaded until after you have
created your character. It completely removes the third person
and vanity camera modes. The only way that you'll be able to
see your character is by going into the inventory screens.

The EnableFreeLookNoWheel ESP is for people that don't use OBSE and
don't have a scroll wheel. People with a scroll wheel can still use it
if they wish.

This mod was developed at the request of a user that didn't have the
ability to move the camera into their body because they didn't have a
scroll wheel.

This mod automatically forces the vanity and third person cameras to
appear inside your body. They have to stay there.

Unlike the OBSE version, this mod has no impact on system performance.
However, it does have a visual anomaly that some people may not like.
Unlike the EnableFreeLook ESP, there is no set up to use this mod.

To enable the Free Look camera, hold down the key that is assigned to
the 'Change View' functionality in the game's Options/Controls menu. By
default the 'Q' key is assigned to that functionality. You can now
rotate the camera 360 degrees to look around you, all without affecting
the direction you are travelling in.

If you have a scroll wheel, then you can hold it down rather than
holding down the 'Change View' key. Both will work.

You will see a brief flash of your character from the inside when you
activate the Free Look camera. This is the anomaly I mentioned. If you
can't live with seeing yourself for half a second, then you should
consider using the OBSE version.

Because this mod completely removes the ability to see your body from
the outside, this mod disables the automatic vanity camera that starts
up whenever your character has been idle for two minutes.

See the Technical Details and Known Issues sections if you are
interested in how/why this mod works.

EnableFreeLookOBSE.esp
----------------------
The EnableFreeLookOBSE ESP is only for people who run OBSE. I did not
experience any crashes with this mod when OBSE wasn't loaded, the mod
just didn't work (YMMV).

This mod now works for people that don't have mouse wheels.

This mod no longer requires that you to also load EnableFreeLook.esp for
the best experience.

This mod was created to eliminate the annoying body fade that you get
with EnableFreeLook.esp. If you can't put up with seeing your body flash
on the screen and then fade out, you'll want to use this mod.

This mod runs every 0.6 seconds to check for various key and mouse
button presses, so it may affect your framerates some.

When you first load this mod, you'll be prompted to assign a key to it.
That key will override the functionality of this mod and force the
vanity camera to act as it did when Oblivion shipped.

Other than assigning a key, there are no other set up steps required for
this mod. Hold down the middle mouse button and you can start to use the
Free Look camera.

You can also hold down the key that is assigned to the 'Change View'
functionality in the game's Options/Controls menu. By default the 'Q' key
is assigned to that functionality.

When you want the Free Look camera to be a vanity camera again, just
hold down the key you assigned to the mod. When you release the key, it
will switch back to being a Free Look camera.

You are only prompted to assign a key to the mod the first time the mod
is used with a character. From that point on, the key will be saved with
your character. This means multiple people, using the same computer, can
each have their own key assigned.

If at any point, you decide you want to change the key you assigned to
your character, open the console (usually the ~ key) and type 'set
efl to 0'.

See the Technical Details and Known Issues sections if you are
interested in how/why this mod works.

file(s) you no longer want to use.

2. Delete the ESP file(s) associated with this mod from your Oblivion
Data folder.

Incompatibilities
=================
There are no know conflicts with this mod. Uninstalling this mod should
not affect your save games. This mod works great with Vanity Camera
Smoother by Woodman.

Known Issues or Bugs
====================
Bethesda implemented the vanity camera so that it positions itself
midway up your back. This results in your view dropping some when
switching from first person. You are no longer seeing out of your eyes,
but out of your chest.

Neither Bethesda nor OBSE has a way to move the camera via scripting
yet. If they ever do, I'll try and correct this visual problem. Until
that time, the screen will always appear to jump when switching modes.
Overtime, you'll get better at minimizing the jumping by how you
reposition the camera before switching modes.

If you have EnableFreeLookNoWheel.esp loaded when you start a new game,
then you will not be able to see your face during the character creation
phase. This mod should only be loaded once you have created your
character.

There is nothing that I know of right now that can get rid of the fading
out of your body in the non OBSE versions. If someone has a solution,
I'll try to implement it.

Because this is a hack of the vanity mode camera, the camera will stay
in whatever position you left it in when you released the middle mouse
button or the 'Change View' key. Unlike most MMOs, the camera will not
automatically swing back to the direction you are heading. The next time
you press the button, you'll be presented with the last view you saw.

This is good if you want to use the camera as a chase camera, but most
other times it can be confusing. Until the ability comes along to
reposition the camera in scripts, this functionality will remain.

If you have problems keeping your bearings when switching modes, I
suggest you always recenter the camera in the direction you are
travelling before releasing the middle button.
