    Is this mod safe?

    It may seem like a mischievous and provocative question to ponder, but I am having many problems with my modded Oblivion, in particular with the constant CTD when using the Better Cities mod.

    What's that got to do with this mod, you may ask? That's what I thought, but the general consensus among folks is that this mod is not particularly safe nor stable, and at least some of my CTD can be attributed to me using this mod.

    I am vacillating as to wheher I should uninstall this mod, and I would like some assurance that the advise I am getting is not truth and this mod can safely remain in my mods portfolio.

    Here's the list of mods causing me so much problems

      You're still using both:
      45 DLCThievesDen - Unofficial Patch.esp [Version 1.0.14]
      46 DLCThievesDen - Unofficial Patch - SSSB.esp [Version 1.0.13]
      while only one should be active. At least some of your CTDs can be atrributed to this.

      As for RGO, saebel has included an updated/upgraded/corrected version of this mod in his SDR (sneaking detection recalibrated). You can use either the whole mod or just the RGO part of it.

      Well, I was in Bruma trying to wait/sleep for an hour but every time getting an CTD, I tried disabling all my mods and adding them category by category, after a short process of elimination I found the culprit which happens to be this mod for some unknown reason.

      I also had the same problem with using DLCThievesDen - Unofficial Patch.esp and DLCThievesDen - Unofficial Patch - SSSB.esp but disabling SSSB version still did not help. Till I turned Reener's Guard Overhaul off.

      On the other hand, I found this through trial and error, is there any way to use the Windows crash log to actually track the mod that causes it?

      @ Amessagetoyou: Not that I know of - and believe me, I was plagued by CTD's in my time (always running more than 250-300 mods simultaneously, including the ones you don't activate but import to bashed patch) so I used to ask the same questions. Disabling/enabling mods by category is a good way to go. I found that this process is way easier since I began using Wrye Bash. It shows you much more diagnostic information than any other mod manager.
      These days (or rather years) my game runs smoothly with almost no crashes whatsoever, but I guess the right choice of mods, and the right balance comes with experience once you can spot potential conflicts and are able to prevent them. You seem inquisitive enough, I'm sure you'll find your perfect safe setup, too.

      For now I suggest you try updated RGO by saebel.

      After carefully searching for the culprit, I found that even using the SDR patch for RGO isn't enough to prevent the CTDs that occur using RGO + Better Cities. Is there any way to fix this? I would really like to continue having guards follow.

      Update: If you turn off RGO and then turn it back on, it seems to fix the CTD. I'm not sure why?

      Unfortunately sometimes CTDs get way too annoying for me.
      I use MO, LOOT and only well-maintained mods.

      The biggest annoying factor is that, I still do not understand how to diagnose an error.
      I sometimes post an error log and all I get is "Make sure your PC is clean, your system is good enough, change your load order, etc"...

      How about info regarding the actual error I was experiencing?

      For example I had a mod that made a small change to soul trapping, every time I tried to capture a soul I was getting a CTD with meaningless numbers and stuff but googling that error would just yield meaningless suggestions, anything from sound card codecs to GPUs while the actual fix was just changing a small number from 1 to 0.

      Why can't we use error logs to actually locate whatever it is that malfunctioning?
      This way I would be more than happy about CTDs

      P.S. Every time I use the SDR mod I get some annoying lighting even during midnight.
      I don't really like mods when they make changes to something not clearly mentioned. If I am installing a mod "called" Sneaking Detection Recalibrated I just expect it to make the sneaking detection better, that's it

    I can't rightly endorse this mod. I'm not super keen about how legion soldiers on horseback will ride at me full steam, stopping only inches away, if they merely see me draw my weapon. A similar thing happens when I'm sneaking. Being an archer is truly annoying around any legion soldiers on the roads.

    I have also experienced a certain bug where fighting enemies in proximity to guards will cause the guards to go berserk and start attacking everything in sight, including me and innocent civilians. I've had this same bug occur many times. I didn't attack anything that was not hostile to me. Yielding to the guards by sheathing my weapon will sometimes cause them to stop attacking, but not always. Killing them adds to my bounty, even though they initiated the attack on me. All of this occurs even with zero bounty.

    Furthermore, I'm afraid that this mod will have lasting damage on my savegame, even if I uninstall it. To those reading this, consider carefully before using this mod. In my experience it does more harm than good.

    i keep getting random bounties of 120. its annoying how do I make it stop?

      Im pretty sure, because I got while in the middle of the wilderness, then a feckin Rider came out of nowhere.

    This mod will DESTROY a safely modded game. Don't bother with it. It's not worth the many, many, many headaches this somehow manages to create in saved games.

    Great mod, but unfortunately it makes my game crash at 5am (game time). Is it incompatible with OWC-ND?

    Great mod! I've been playing for a few weeks and it's working fine. Normally I'm not flooded by guards, I can fight them now.

    I've seen a bug though. In one the latest quests of Thieves Guild that I must steal a scroll. When I'm leaving the castle and must jump off a high height, when I click the fireplace, the game crashes. It was very annoying because I was full of loot and guards were chasing me and I couldn't just command-port out of there because the quest wouldn't move to next stage.

    I found out it was this mod. When I disabled it, I was able to leave thru the fireplace.

    I suppose that I'm bountied inside the castle. But when I leave it, the quest moves to next stage and the bounty is removed from me. When it tries to remove the bounty it conflicts with the mod and crashes.
