Oblivion's crickets are TOO DAMN LOUD. They don't sound ambient or distant; they sound like they are always perched on your shoulder. The lack of sound volume variance makes this incredibly annoying to me.
Cricket ambiance is present in three outdoor regions: Forest, Plains, and Swamps.
This mod completely silences crickets in plains and forest regions.
I actually like the swamp region cricket ambiance, but I still find it too loud. So those just got a significant volume reduction.
I made this for my sanity and possibly yours. Headphone users should particularly enjoy the newfound quietude.
There is an optional file that lowers the cricket volume in all regions, if you prefer. Make sure to install only one.
Installation:
1) There are two versions. PICK ONLY ONE. Choose between Silent Crickets, or Quieter Crickets.
2) Simply drop the "sound" folder into your Data folder. That's it, no ESP, nothing gets over-written.
Uninstall:
Navigate to Data\sound\fx\ambient\regions
Delete the folder called "crickets" and enjoy your bleeding ears, again.
