Requirements:
Oblivion version 1.2.0416
OBSE/xOBSE - made with version 21.4
Preface:
This mod should be usefull for anyone, who plays for some custom race. Utilizing
SetRaceAlias OBSE command, it can make your race look like one of vanilla races. Using
this approach brings some benefits - as player's race will be seen both as its own
and vanilla, it should make all race related problems go away. As I saw someone looking
for such mod and found that for player only it isn't such hard work to make it, here it is.
Install:
Just drag the RaceAlias.esp file into Oblivion's Data directory using manual copy or
your favorite mod manager and activate the esp.
Usage:
In the begining you will be prompted to choose a vanilla race you want player to be recognized.
After this a mod will make some tests on player and if they pass, it will make an vanilla alias.
From now on a player's race will be seen as both vanilla and custom race for entire session of
Oblivion.
A tests after config can fail on these occassions:
1. Player is a creature - creatures aren't supported. You will see a message about it.
2. Player's race is already recognised as one of vanilla races. In that case a mod doesn't see a
point to set an alias, so it just inform you in another message box about it.
3. Player's race can't be identified. In that case you'll see a message about it and an alias will
not be created.
On all occassions, good or bad, your choice will be saved in variable. Save a game to make this mod
remember your choice and skip initial config. After restart of Oblivion this mod will make similar tests
on player as after config and if all went good, you will see a message informing you of what race you
will be recognized.
If you want to change your vanilla alias, enter console and type this command:
set RomRRaceAlias.aliasPref to 0
This will reset your choice and force init procedure. After choosing a race you will propably see
a message box as mentioned in test failures. No matter, save a game and your new choice will be
applied after restart of Oblivion.
Uninstall:
It should be safe to disable and uninstall it anytime.
Notices/Limits:
This mod doesn't scan actively for player's race changes.
If another mod sets race alias for player's too, in case of different races it will create
multiple aliases. Tests showed no harm in it, just Oblivion seems to favor the latest defined.
If you use such mod, you also propably don't need this mod.
