Thank you maboroshinokiseki. I was getting a lot of crashes playing Skyrim Alive and I added Cpu Affinity along with Blue's Oblivion Engine Fixes and the crashing stopped completely. I already had Engine Bug Fixes and from now on I will have all three permanently.
I have an I9-13900HX.....so far only 137 mods, just shy of 50 esps. Does this actually help and is there a Skyrim version cos I have the priority one for Skyrim and my GPU says its at 60% without mods....with a few like SMIM, a few other basic "skin" mods the fps becomes unstable....any mods like this but for Skyrim? Sorry a bit offtopic.
So with my i9 would this help at all as I don't struggle but getting better/best performance by better utilisation is fine by me!
Yes, there's a similar mod for Skyrim already, Skyrim Priority SE AE If your PC does not struggle, then I don't think it's necessary to use this mod. You could try though, but I doubt you can notice any difference.
I'm not an expert, but I have been reliably informed in the past by people who have actually poked around the engine that "oblivion only runs on one core" is a myth.
As an aside, if you're one Windows 10 or 11, you should be using Game Mode, which by default handles process priority.
You're right, Oblivion do utilize more than one core, but up to 2 I think. Oblivion do create more than 1 thread, but from my test, only 2 threads are doing CPU intensive works, and it looks like one thread is doing 75% of the work, and the other one is just 25%.
As for the rest, I don't know what to say except that experts who have actually poked around in the code of this engine (the guys who run the Viva New Vegas and Glory of Cyrodiil guides) have told me this is just pointless. But idk. I am not said experts.
Try to change the affinity setting in the config file, I just set the value that should be suited to most people. I set it to [8,10,12,14] BTW. Change the Priority to 4, it may improve the performance.
SAdly that made it worse, lose 40 fps with that setting. May just not matter with my beast PC, I was just trying to see if it increased FPS in some troubled areas. May help other people though.
Got it, thank you for testing Oh, BTW, are you using 13th gen Intel CPU, If so, [8,10,12,14] might set the CPU affinity to e cores, that sure does decrease performance
