About this mod

A simple mod that rescales the vanilla models of blunt weapons to something a bit more *realistic*. No more anvil-sized warhammers with ridiculously short shafts! Now warhammers and battleaxes feel a bit more like polearms and better fit their reaches in-game. This is model edition only: no game value or .ESP needed/created.

WIP: Halberds are currently being forged because I love halberds for being the ultimate all-in-one "blunt" weapon that is said to be able to break plate armours. How poetic!

/!\  SMALL UPDATEs:

-Added optional reversed vanilla SI Darkseducer longsword and Shortsword to better match IRL Indonesian/FIlipino kris blades thanks to swordjuggler's suggestion in my PM. Their thickness is also a bit reduced so they look sharper on their edges.

-Added optional bigger versions of Volendrung's head. If you think my mod rescale is too small with .6x of Vanilla Volendrung's head, you can now choose between .75x, .825x, and .9x. See related picture for comparaisons.

-Added optional non double-headed battleaxes for those prefering them having their sharp edge facing the opponent only. Adresses the six vanilla items having this feature (Daedric, Elven, Iron, Ebony, Glass, Dwarven). See Optional files in download section.

-Added optional OVERSIZED warhammers for whom size matters, which consists of 1.25 to 1.5x vanilla hammers but with the longer shafts for Daedric, Elven, Iron, Ebony, Glass, Dwarven, Silver, Steel, Fine Steel and Volendrung. See Optional files in download section.

-Sword replacements for elven and Dwarven have been separated from main mod file and are now optional files.

Recommended mods: (but not required for mine to work):

-Thinner Glass Blades by Totallynotenemyspy https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/51524
Use this if you want your vanilla glass blades to be thinner.

-Narrowed Blade Elven Longsword by Kyuzo84 https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/31254
An other solution made a long time ago for the elven longsword with a design closer to vanilla than mine, use it instead if you prefer this one.

Description:

I mainly use swords in Oblivion only because blunt weapon models are so badly scaled that you can't see what's in front of you while handling them in first person view. This is sad, because blunt weapons are fun, and when you consider how thick plate armours are in this universe, it would certainly make more sense to crush them with a proper bec-de-corbin instead.

Also, swords are flashy too, but acceptable for me the way they are... except that ugly elven longsword, and the overall thickness of Dwarven blades.

This mod is a model rework of vanilla blunt weapons so they feel less oversized, clumsy, super-heavy, and somewhat ridiculous. It doesn't edit any in-game values such as reaches, speed etc, only model replacements based on vanilla assets. I was very unhappy with those genuine designs, but as I made once again an Oblivion installation on a new computer, I didn't want to go trough a full replacement of every ingame models like I did before, but I wanted instead a lightweight mod that adresses this very "issue" only so I don't have to spend hours reinstalling the game again each time my computer blows up, and keep the whole vanilla design.

So those are basically the vanilla models, but now they look like your average bosmer won't break his spine trying to lift one of those anvil-sized warhammers. This is not intended to be historically accurate or hyper realistic (tons of far better mods exist if you want something like that), but I think that the overall *realistic feel* is better, while keeping the flashy fantasy vibe of the game.

What's inside exactly:

-WARHAMMERS: Iron, Elven, Steel, Fine steel, Silver, Ebony, Daedric, Glass,  and Dwarven have been scaled down to .45x (Volendrung is .6x), and pushed away with a longer shaft so they better match their vanilla reaches in-game, and look a bit more like two handed hammers. The silver WH being particularly ugly, i edited it so it looks a bit like a bec-de-corbin, which is fun.

-BATTLEAXES: Iron, Elven, Steel, Fine steel, Silver, Ebony, Daedric, Glass, Dwarven have been scaled down to .6x, and pushed
away with a longer shaft so they better match their vanilla reaches
in-game, and look a bit more like two handed axes, with a smaller blade, and a longer shaft.

-WARAXES: Iron, Elven, Steel, Fine steel, Silver, Ebony, Daedric, Glass, Dwarven have been scaled down to .6x, and pushed
away a bit to compensate the rescale. Now they look a bit more like tomahawks, one-handed small axes, or something.

-MACES: Iron, Elven, Steel, Fine steel, Silver, Ebony, Daedric, Glass, Molagbal and Mace of the Crusader have been scaled down to .6x, and pushed
away a bit to compensate the rescale. Now they look a bit more like the flanged, morning stars, etc one-handed maces you can see in museums-or under your pillow, maybe!

-SWORDS: (Replacements made optionals as for 1.1V) Elven longsword model is replaced by a rescaled down Elven claymore model, the scabbard has been resized accordingly. Dwarven claymore and longsword have their thickness reduced to .6x, Dwarven shortsword width and thickness scaled down to respectively .75 and .6x, Dwarven dagger thinner too.

-CLUB: diameter scaled down to .75x

Collision boxes have been adjusted especially for the longer weapons since I pushed them heads forward, not the shortest (In fact it served me as a way to keep the overall lenght the same it was for those shorter weapons).
Every Center/Radius has been updated so no parts should disappear on edge of screens.

Everything else is unchanged, since I wanted to keep things close to the vanilla game: Dwarven mace is already pretty ok, and other assets from Shivering Isle haven't been changed for two reasons: the overall aspect of some is acceptable for me, and the others belong to non human or psychedelic people, so, yeah, they have their own less conventional design.

Install/Desinstall:

1.Extract archive content.
2.Copy the Data folder to your /Oblivion main folder. (backup your /data/meshes/weapons first if you have other files installed here and want to remove this mod)
3.Be sure you have archiveinvalidation or equivalent or my models may not show up correctly in-game.

To desinstall: remove the Oblivion/data/meshes/weapons/... folders and the Oblivion/data/Textures/Atrisblunt

Incompatibility:

Any mod that replaces the same vanilla weapon meshes it does. Other than that, it should work fine with everything else, since there is no .esp.

Known issues:

-Weapon racks and tables in some locations may look a bit messy with the changes in shape of some weapons, since I chose to not make any .esp file. You may see them fallen apart or little things like that, sorry about the mess !

-Optional Oversized Warhammers may have some minor clipping issues with player's hands especially in first person view for some of the weapons I'm affraid (silver, steel, and glass)

-Nothing else, except that I'm not a great 3D modeler: this is really just simple nifskope tweaks, everything I used is from vanilla parts I edited for my needs, and a few textures edited with Dxtbmp, Pixia and Paint. (But it took me so much time!)
This is a very humble mod I did for myself because I couln't find one that adresses this topic, but I'd like to share it anyway.
If some talented modder wishes to make the same thing in a better way, well, I would be pleased! (Especially the connecting thing I added which are in fact based on the gold coin .nif that I used as a link when needed, and some textures that are not super quality)

Enjoy!
