About this mod

Do you remember those beginning tasks to clean out the rats? Ah, the early adventures of the legendary hero back when he earned his living as a mouse trap. This time, it might be a little harder.

You hear a rumour of a house infested by monster rats. But, perhaps the problem runs deeper than rats in a house.

==Description==
Do you remember those beginning tasks to clean out the rats? Ah, the early adventures of the legendary hero back when he earned his living as a mouse trap. This time, it might be a little harder.

You hear a rumour of a house infested by monster rats. Since the house is outside Chorrol's city walls, the City Watch aren't bothering with it. With so much trouble following the Emperor's assassination, the Imperial Legion certainly can't be bothered with rats. Nobody seems to have noticed that the owners of the house are missing nor that the few adventurers who have checked into the rumour have not returned to talk about it.
Perhaps the problem runs deeper than rats in a house. (hint hint)
Another hint: Rats will eat anything. Might be rewarding to check. Plus rat meat is a tasty alternative to beef.

==Gameplay==
You will get a rumour message after you load the mod and start Oblivion. No journal entries. No quest stages. No clues. But you do get flashed a few of the thoughts that might pop into an adventurer's head in certain situations. One of those thoughts will let you know when you’ve solved the source of the problem.

The house has a fast travel map marker if you are in a hurry to hack-a-rat, but it's not hard to find without it. It's near to Weynon Priory.

I recommend at least a level 10 character. I got slaughtered testing it with anything less. Even with level 10, I had to retreat and heal a lot.

I've play-tested the mod from start to finish several times and cleaned it with TES4Edit. It was constructed using only Oblivion.esm. But I did rename and modify the final treasure so, either sell it or use it before removing the mod or it will disappear from your inventory. The rest of the loot is vanilla Oblivion so, it will persist.
(I renamed and modified my rats too, but who cares if dead rats disappear?)

==Conflicts==
None known but with so many mods available, it's impossible to say. I placed the house outside the city to avoid conflict with the various city mods and I think I chose a place that does not conflict with Unique Landscapes or other terrain mods. The mod itself is mostly vanilla with only a few modified/renamed items so, there should be no conflict with item mods.

==Feedback==
This is my first quest mod so, constructive feedback is appreciated. Please realize that "Level 3 sucks!" doesn’t provide enough info to improve the mod. Statements like "Level 3 is too dark" or "Level 3 has too many rats" are comments I can work with. Thank you in advance.

==Installation==
Simply drop "Rats Revenge v1_5.esp" into your Oblivion\Data directory and load it using whatever method you use to load mods.

To uninstall, reverse the procedure and take a shower to wash of the smell of rat.

==Version History==
Version 1.0 to 1.2 created the house and the interiors and, infested them with "slightly" larger than average rats. Experimented with rat numbers, rat sizes and levelled loot trying to get tough but achievable fights with reasonable rewards.

V1.3 to V1.4 Added a fast travel marker. Added message boxes to enhance the story (and to learn how to make them happen when the player passes an invisible line). Added a text box at the beginning to notify the player of the situation and location. Fixed minor bugs.

V1.5 Fixed last problem with help from forum members. Cleaned with TES4Edit.

==Credit and thanks==
Thanks to Betheseda for The Elder Scrolls games. Still some of my favourite games after all these years.
Thanks to the authors of the Construction Set and the people who created the Wiki and mod-making tutorials for it.
Thanks to the authors of TES4Edit for giving me an easy way to avoid a dirty mod. And for the lessons in good mod creation.
Thanks to the forum members for helping me find answers to my problems.

==Licensing/Legal==
None. If you decide to include this mod in your own work, please mention my name and send me a rat pot pie. (Yummy)

==Resources Used==
Oblivion.esm
A lot of time because I was learning everything as I built.
A lot of caffeine because I’m addicted to coffee.
A lot of slaughtered, digital rats… because it was fun and that is what digital rats are for.
