For users who see missing "willothewispbloodspray.nif" file error when decompressing, get the .mpi file from optional downloads and run decompressor again.
Refusing to run in Program Files is obnoxious, especially since the tool runs as admin by default. I had to move the game folder out of Program Files, run the tool, then move it back. Still runs completely fine from there, so not sure why the tool tries to prevent it.
Because it doesn't matter. Unofficial patch is a must have and always present anyway. If you don't use it then you know very well what you are doing and can easily decompress archives manually with bsarch.
"Because it doesn't matter. Unofficial patch is a must have and always present anyway."
Not everyone uses the unofficial patch and it is definitely not a must have. These patches fix bugs, yes, but they also change some aspects of the game that are not considered bugs and is therefore unwanted by purists, such as myself.
I would be grateful if you could upload a version which does not require the unofficial patch.
I do use the unofficial patch, but I use it via MO2, because I prefer using it over installing mods manually. So since the... wait. I could probably just copy "DLCShiveringIsles - Faces.bsa" to my base Oblivion folder, run this, and then remove the file. Gonna try that and report back. Edit: Worked like a charm! Thanks for making this tool. Though I'm curious about bsarch, since I've never heard of it, so if there's a tutorial or something for it, I'd like to know.

I don't understand - I also use MO2 - but my Unofficial Patches do not reside inside the Oblivion Install location...they are "safe" in the MO2 managed folders. There was no "DLCShiveringIsles - Faces.bsa" showing up in my Oblivion install? And - if it had shown up - I'd delete it and reinstall the Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch - USIP - but chances are, I'd never have even noticed it without looking - but the file was never present in order to be decompressed - because of MO2 isolation.
Got stuck at "Error reading "D:\Games\Oblivion\Data\Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa\textures\characters\redguard\female\foot.dds": File not found in archive" maybe because I'm using a german version instead of an english one. Any solutions?
Ahoy, I have been reading through the comments trying to find an answer to my question before asking but nothing that I can find fits the bill, so to speak.
I use MO2 and will have HQ texture packs installed, will unpacking my BSA's with this tool help any? Any advice is greatly appreciated, it's been a while since I modded Oblivion last so I am trying to catch up on using the new tools. Cheers.
Oh I see now, I just re-read the description page. At first I thought this extracted the BSA files into loose textures, I see now it actually recreates the BSA's. So if I'm using MO2 can I just dump all of my mods BSA's into the Data folder while using this tool, then once it decompresses everything I can place them back in their MO2 folders?
Hi Zilav, can i use BSA decompressor on modded game? I have like 80 active mods right now, I have modded graphics with HD textures, gameplay, installed all unofficial patches for base game and all DLCs, some useful plugins, all with Wrye bash. I'm happy to have actually working game, but some more frames might be useful. I don't want to screw things up. Thanks for answer.
I appreciate the BSA tool - my BSA's get processed but looks like only the biggest five(?) or so do BUT not all BSA content needs it so - OK -
Now- there's no confirmations or log so I'm not exactly sure what it does only able to see the files change when I look at my file manager. Not sure what the Shivering Isles dependency is about - the tool runs the same whether I have the USIP BSA in my Oblivion install folder or not...running MO2 - the patches are not in my default Oblivion folder - so this utility didn't seem to care either way. I ran it several times - having backed up my vanilla BSA's - I was able to test the process...
My game runs, so nothing is broken - I have no complaints - but I still don't know why the utility can't give you a summary of what it actually did
Update:
Removed Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch dependency - Faces are now being moved to Oblivion - Misc.bsa
Ah - that explains how the misc BSA went from ~2mb to 600mb lol
Maybe depends, if the game is on ssd or hdd. And if it is defragmented or not. And 5400 and 7200 hdd speed can differ by like 30%. In theory, ssd read is like 10-30x faster than hdd so decompressed should work there much better.
It was a success the first time I used this. However, decompressing it again gave me an error that 00000882_0.dds file not found. I don't understand why - I only added 4 new mods and had not removed any mods that I previously installed prior to decompressing it the first time.
hello I packed my generated LOD into a bsa and already my loading and performance were improved but I was wondering if it's possible for me to use this tool to decompress that bsa I made.

BTW if anyone want to test newer zlib AveSithis Engine Fixes
"I packed my generated LOD into a bsa"
if you were able to pack BSA youself, then you can simply pack it uncompressed. Sounds logical to me.
