About this mod

Adds a book that lists all the ruins that contains an Ayleid statue, and gives directions to them. Ancestor hunting made easy and lore-friendly! Also comes with an extra helping of Ayleid lore.

Changelogs
I think 'The Collector' is one of my favourite quests, but after a few play-throughs, a fellow tires of playing the ruin guessing game. I was about to note down which ruins had Ayleid statues and which ones did not, when, it struck me that I could simply mod the note into the game itself. After that, it struck me that it would be more fun if it was written in-universe. And if it was a proper in-game book. And if it had supporting lore. Of course, the official lore around the Ancestors is terribly threadbare. Why not do something little about that, while we're at it? This little mod grew from that.

About this mod:
============
This mod adds 2 new books to the game. They are:

"Sites of the Ancestors."

A book that lists and describes all the Ayleid ruins that contain an Ayleid Ancestor Statue. Contains directions and a little flavour text.
No map markers added, it is all direction-based. Some good old-fashioned orienteering is required. A handy book for the tomb raider in a hurry!

"Flight of the Forebears."

A Mysticism skill book with additional lore on the Ancestors. The source that the guidebook is largely based upon. Mostly provided for flavour.
Might give some insight on the Ancestors and the Tower, or at the very least a skill point.

The books can be bought at Mach-Na's Books, in Cheydinhal.
They can also be found in a small Book Sack, in the sand beneath the middle pillar of the Talos bridge. Both sources respawn.

Installation:
=========
Place the 'UmbSnailAncestorsGuidebook' .esp-file in the 'Data' folder of your
Oblivion directory. Then, activate the .esp-file in the launcher of with the mod
manager of your choice.

It is a very simple mod, with all-vanilla assets.

Known Conflicts:
=============
If you use a non-standard world map, the directions might be less applicable, as they are based on the labels on the map. It will still be possible to navigate to them, but the directions will be a little bit more vague.

The books may look odd if the vanilla book cover textures are replaced. If the book cover have the wrong title, pretend that the cheap
printer is re-using old jackets.

May conflict with mods that significantly alters the Cheydinhal Mach-Na's Books shop.

Might clash with other non-offical lore texts.

Credits & Usage:
======================
Use as you see fit, but kindly give me the appropriate credits if you mean to re-upload
this mod elsewhere or use the texts for other projects. I would also like to be notified.
