About this mod

Adds Warhammer-style witch hunter armor to the game

Permissions and credits
Welcome to the twenty-ninth entry in my Oblivion Immersion Series.  Back this time with a Halloween release, called Properly Equipped Vampire Hunters.
Truth be told, I’ve been on a bit of a Warhammer kick recently, which is the real reason why this mod exists.  So, is this mod actually lore-friendly?  …Um, maybe?  Sure, why not?

The four vampire hunters for the quest “Information at a Price” come with spiffy new threads, meaning they are wearing custom vampire-hunter armor and the all-too-expected Puritan hat (basically, they resemble the witch hunters from Warhammer now).  In the vanilla game,these guys were laughably under equipped for hunting the children of the night, despite being “professionals.”  Their new armor is non-playable (more on that later) and given Elven-level protection, to make the hunters a little tougher.  In addition to new outfits, all of the vampire hunters have been given silver weapons
too.  Because what self-respecting vampire hunter would ever leave the house without a silver weapon, right?

Last,because the people would rebel if I didn’t, the vampire hunter armor set is available for player use.  It can be found in a chest inside Seridur’s basement, HQ for the Order of the Virtuous Blood, inside a faction-owned chest.  The idea is that the armor is free-for-the-taking once you finish the Order’s vampire-hunting story line (but if you haven’t completed it yet, you can still steal it).  The armor comes in both heavy and light, and comes in three tiers, depending on character level.  The hat is bound to the tail-slot (an optional file is available to change that), so it will be wearable even with a necklace or cape.  The default armor texture is set to brown, but 5 alternative textures are available.

Requirements
============

Oblivion Version 1.2.0416

Installation Instructions
====================

Copy contents into your Oblivion data folder

Uninstallation Instructions
======================

Delete the esp an the added meshes and textures

Optional Files
============

The various retextures for the armor are downloadable separately.  Install one after the main file.

Use the Hair-slotted Hat version if you want the playable hat to be bound to the hair-slot instead of the tail-slot for any reason: the primary reason being hair-clipping issues, which this will alleviate (see Known Issues).  The Hair-slotted version is esp-only, so the original file is required for the meshes and textures.

An optional patch for Vampire Hunting - Order of the Virtuous Blood is available, whihc obviously requires both this mod and OVBE to run.  This patch introduces the vampire hunting armor to the handful of NPCs from OVBE who would be appropriate wearers (there aren't many: like a grand total of 8 out of 100s of added NPCs).  Feel free to give it a go if you REALLY want to unite the two mods together stylistically, but there is no need for it outside of aesthetics.  This patch should be compatible with either the main or the Hair-Slotted Hat version.

Last, the OBVE patch is purely experimental, and I gave it only the bare-minimum of testing (as in to-verify-the-game-doesn't-CTD-on-start-up).  Use at your own risk.

Incompatibility
=============

Fully compatible with David Brasher's Vampire Hunting - Order of the Virtuous Blood compilation mod.  See Optional Files for information on the experimental patch.

Known Issues
===========

The hats look odd and over-inflated in size due to the need to accomodate a variety of racial heads.  This is intrinsic to the models and there is nothing I can do about them.

The playable version of the vampire-hunter hat is bound to the tail-slot, so that the player's hair will be visible underneath when equipped (so no bald characters), which has the unfortunate side-effect of the game's goofier hairstyles clipping through the hats (the elven ice cream cone hairstyles being the principal offenders).  If you are dead-set of playing an ice cream cone-haired elf, then use the alternative version (see Optional Files), which changes the playable hat to the hair slot, rather than the tail slot, but with the trade-off of a bald character instead of a hair-that-phases-through-solid-matter one.
