Oblivion

About this mod

A complete revamp for the Vile Lair DLC. Deepscorn now has a backstory, a few baddies to fight, an impressive shrine to Sithis, a library featuring every single book in the vanilla game(aside from quest related), a trophy room, a Thone overlooking the shrine, and eternal slave and much, much more!

Overview of the project:
The simple aim was to make Deepscorn Hollow a more seamless and characterized location in the game.  One with a backstory and an environment all it's own.  Sure the well was a nice touch but there really wasn't much substance beyond it.  Now practically every room tells a story, often a dark and horrifying one.

I also designed this place with the general idea that Deepscorn should be the perfect lair for ANY character of evil genesis, or reclusive nature.  As such the backstory I wrote for Deepscorn allowed for a hidden mortuary, complete with a Black Soul Gem Altar.  The perfect Alternate room for a Necromancer or Warlock Character.  This area is deeply tied into the backstory of the mod, and I won't spoil too much other than to say the area is guarded.  This Cell, Deepscorn Mortuary, can only be accessed when you've purchased the "Lair Dark Sanctums" upgrade from Rowley Eardwulf.  You can find a rune in the armory that will take you there(Secret Shrine Upgrade Required) or you can merely access it through the false wall behind the necromancer tapestry in the main room.

I've also replaced the rather plain Shrine to Sithis with a much more elaborate one.  The hidden shrine is the pinnacle of this mod, it is the best interior I think I've ever created for any game.  It features a complete library(contains all vanilla books including skillbooks, no Shivering Isles Books or Quest Books either), an immaculate trophy room, beautiful gardens, a massive shrine to Sithis and a throne chamber that overlooks it all.  Other interesting features in this area are a great many unique display cases, several storage options, an eternal slave(backstory explained in game) who tends the shrine, a revamped purgeblood salt altar room, a privacy switch to make the Dark Minion and Eternal Slave buzz off  and a nice training area.  This cell, Deepscorn Abyss, can only be accessed via a rune in the back of the armory when you've purchased the "Lair Secret Shrine" upgrade from Rowley Eardwulf.

Other general changes include the prisoner being changed to a young, Breton female.  Her backstory is mentioned in the receipt for the "Lair Prison" upgrade.  The Dark Minion also has significantly updated AI packages, and will sandbox in Deepscorn Hollow and the Abyss(when you have completed the quest and provided you haven't engaged the privacy switch.)  Much of what you know and remember is still in the primary cell of Deepscorn Hollow, I just revamped the floor plan significantly and removed the lower class clutter.  I've also added a guardian who looks like the Dark guardian from the Cheydinhall Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary.  He patrols he entry hall provided you have the "Lair Garden and Guardian" upgrade. The four "caches" have been replaced with hidden bags and aylied coffers and reliquaries throughout the facility.  As you can imagine, the prices for upgrades was also increased significantly to compensate for the more extravagant clutter and furnishings.  Most of them are around 2,000 septims, but the shrine is around 10,000 and the Sanctums are around 6,000.  Pricing suggestions are open for discussion but the prices themselves are unlikely to be changed much.  The Crimson Scar armory was expanded a bit and the Raiment and Eviscerater are also no longer leveled, you always get the best.

Finally, I moved the ruined tower on the surface and revamped it to be a nice secret exit for the player only. The minion can use his peon's ladder, while you shall teleport to a magnificent view of the ocean. Look for the teleporter rune in the armory once you have the "Lair Secret Shrine" Upgrade.

There will be no spoilers placed here, other than in the F.A.Q.; and posts in comments containing spoilers of this mod's content without tags will be deleted; repeat offenders will be banned from my mods.

Also note that you must keep the key for the Armory Door once you have it, otherwise you cannot access it. The doors close after 5 seconds and the interior armory door locks. There is a spare in the armory on the ledge, and a respawning key sack hidden on a rock in the abyss behind the Slave's art studio. you can Disable the automatic lock mechanism via the switch in the armory itself as of update 1.4

Installation:

I HAVE NEVER BOUGHT ANY DEEPSCORN UPGRADES:
  • Install the VileLairRedux.esp to your oblivion data directory(using a mod manager or simply extracting it there with 7zip)
  • Check the .esp in the launcher or in your favorite mod sorting utility
  • Play the game and enjoy your lair.

I'VE PURCHASED DEEPSCORN UPGRADES:
  • First, make sure you have a save far from Deepscorn and you have all items out of it.
  • Uncheck the Vile Lair DLC's .esm in the launcher or your mod sorter
  • Open the game, load your save. Save the game, load that save, then save once more.
  • close the game, recheck the vile lair DLC's .esm
  • Now extract or install my vilelairredux.esp to your oblivion data directory
  • check the .esp in the laucher or mod manager
  • Play Game and enjoy your lair.

NOTE: This route will reset the questline and you will have to re-purchase the upgrades. There is unfortunately no way I am yet aware of to make it properly update without the need to reset the quest. Sorry for any inconvenience. Also note that you can have BEEN to Deepscorn, this route is only for those who purchased upgrades for it previous to installing my mod.

Compatibility:
Obviously incompatible with anything altering Deepscorn Hollow. Seems to work with the unofficial DLC patch for the Vile Lair, just load my mod after.

F.A.Q. !SPOILERS!
Q: How do I access the Mortuary?
A: After purchasing the Dark Sanctums Upgrade, a rock will be cleared from the back of the great hall. Look behind the necromancer tapestry. If you have the Secret Shrine Upgrade, the mortuary is also accessible from the Armor via the bottom left Teleport Rune.

Q: How do I access the Abyss?
A: After purchasing the Secret Shrine upgrade the false back in the cabinet will disappear permitting entry to the armory. The key is in a jewelry box on the right as you step in. The cabinet doors autoclose, and the armory door autocloses and locks itself so be sure to keep that key. The teleport rune on the bottom right will take you to the Abyss.

Q: How do I open the displays in the Abyss?
A: There is a jewelry box on the chest of drawers in near the throne overlooking Sithis's Shrine. Look in there for the first key. Use that key to open the shelf displays in the Trophy room, one of which has the main display key inside.

Q; How do you open the displays and the gate in the Mortuary?
A: With the key you get from the corpse of the Lich.
