Description

Oblivion's arrow physics are a little lacking by default, and the reticle icons obscure targets. I'm not a big fan of mods that lump a lot of changes together and while there are some decent mods around that adjust these issues, they come with a lot of extra features.

This mod is intended to address several flaws while keeping archery challenging. This mod does not touch any weapons or skills, it adjusts the base settings for arrows but no arrows were touched specifically. As you can see in the screenshots, the reticle has two reference pegs beneath the center (the upper one is kind of pointless but I liked it aesthetically so I left it), these pegs are only effective at a medium distance as this mod is not intended to make aiming easy. The purpose of this mod is to make bow combat focus more on player capability with a learning curve. The distant screenshots show how far from a target you have to be before the reticle no longer helps; this is intended to reward experienced players with distant kills without turning bows into catapults. The reticle is also designed to be very transparent, especially the sneak icon; this will help prevent targets from getting obstructed while aiming.

Adjustments:
  • Arrow speed increased from 2,000 to 4,000
  • Arrow based gravity increased from 0.5 to 0.75
  • Reticle and sneak eye locations adjusted, arrows now hit what you aim at.
  • Large and Medium textures for reticle and sneak eye replaced (Small textures untouched).

Installation

Simple Archery - Full.zip contains all the files needed, simply install it in whatever manner your installation process normally uses.

I included separate zips for anyone that doesn't want something from the mod. This mod adjusts the hud_reticle.xml file which every reticle adjustment mod will fiddle with; if you have a conflict with hud adjustments, I suggest overriding mine. The adjustments made to the reticle position are based off the game's vanilla textures, if mine don't line up with another mod's .xml settings, you'll have to adjust that mod's .xml manually. The plugin only touches fArrowGravityBase and fArrowSpeedmult; if you have a compatibility issue, that's where your issue will be. My mod is pretty simple so it's probably safe to let my plugin override others.

Uninstallation

Even with a manual installation this mod shouldn't actually override anything. I had to extract all this stuff from the BSA so just delete what you installed. Mod only replaces vanilla content and doesn't use scripts so it's safe to uninstall.
