About this mod

Adds lore-friendly shrines to households and businesses throughout Cyrodiil

Hooray!  My first mod!  Welcome to the first part of my Oblivion Immersion Series.  One of the major criticisms of Oblivion was the lack of differentiation between the Colovian and Nibenese subcultures in Cyrodiil.  This mod tries to remedy that just a bit by adding lore-appropriate shrines to houses, businesses, and a few other places throughout Cyrodiil.  Some will be very easy to spot; some will require a bit of house-breaking to see.

The Oblivion Immersion Series is a planned series of separate but loosely related mods meant to bring Cyrodiil to life in a lore-conscious way.  Some additions are meant to fill in elements that were lacking in the original game.  Others will just be my spin on things that other modders have already done and probably done better.  All mods in this series will be intended to be used together, but each can be used individually.

For example:

The Colovians, a militaristic and rustic people, comprise of the bulk of the Legion.  The martial Colovians may have shrines to the Nine Divines, but these are scarcer than in the Heartlands.  Cities dominated by Colovian subculture include Chorrol, Anvil, and Skingrad (Kvatch has been left untouched).

The cosmopolitan Nibenese, by contrast, are esoteric, philosophizing, and religious.  The Nibenese will have often a multitude of shrines in their homes and businesses.  Many Nibenese will have shrines related to more obscure cults, such as shrines to Cuhlecain (the Cult of Emperor Zero), Reman Cyrodiil (founder of the 2nd Empire), Alessia and Morihaus (leaders of the rebellion against the Ayleids), and shrines to various hero and animal cults.   Cities dominated by Nibenese subculture include Leyawiin, Bravil, Cheydinhal, Bruma, and the Imperial City.

Other lore-appropriate elements have been added:

- Nords will often have a shrine to Tiber Septim or Kynareth.

- Mages Guild halls and the Arcane University will have shrines to Julianos.

- Orcs may have a shrine to Malacath.

- Many merchants and businesspeople throughout Cyrodiil will have a shrine to Zenithar.

- Weynon Priory and Cloud Ruler Temple will have a shrine to Tiber Septim.

- The Temple of the Ancestor Moths will have a shrine to Julianos.

- A few Dunmer will have shrines to the Reclamation Daedra: Azura, Mephala, and Boethiah.

- Members of the Thieves Guild may have a shrine to Nocturnal, hinting at their true allegiance.

- Sleeper agents of the Mythic Dawn may have a shrine to Merhunes Dagon in their dwellings, hinting at their true allegiance.

- Members of the Dark Brotherhood may have a shrine to the Night Mother in the guise of the Lucky Old Lady, hinting at their true allegiance.

As of v1.1, new things have been added, including:

- Shrines to Molag Bal and Clavicus Vile for vampires

- Large statues of Alessia, Morihaus, or Reman at historically relevant sites

v1.2 has undergone a good cleaning with TESIVEdit, and boy did it need it.  The large statues of Alessia and Morihaus have been added to a few additional sites.

All of the shrines are static items, so they can't be taken.  All shrines to the Nine Divines can be triggered to receive a blessing.  Other shrines, such as the Daedra and the more obscure figures, are just for scenery.  I don’t know anything about scripting, so they aren’t programmed to do anything.  Anyone who knows how to script is welcome to take a gander at it though.  Some artistic license was taken with some of the more obscure cults mentioned in the lore.  Don’t like the way I set it up?  Then feel free to make changes.  I use BSAs for my mods; it minimizes the clutter in my data folders.  Don’t like it?  Unpack it.

Requirements:

Oblivion Version 1.2.0416

Installation Instructions:

Copy contents into your Oblivion data folder

Uninstallation Instructions:

Delete the esp and bsa files

Incompatibility:

Will in all likelihood be incompatible with mods that edit the interiors and layout of the buildings in the game. That said, I do not know of any mods that would cause serious problems with this.  At worst, the effected buildings might have floating shrines.  Should be fully compatible with Blessings of the Divines.

Change Log:

v1.2:

-cleaned with TesIVEdit
-further expanded the inclusion of large statues of Alessia and Morihaus to historically relevant sites

v1.1:

-corrected KN issue by replacing the wayshrine blessings with the altar blessing for the Nine Divines
-replaced deer shrine mesh
-added bear shrine
-added shrines of Molag Bal and Clavicus Vile
-added 3 more Cult of Heroes statues
-expanded the number of Night Mother statues
-added large statues of Alessia, Morihaus, and Reman Cyrodiil to historically relevant sites

v1.0:

-initial release

Optional Files:

Man Bull Morihaus is an optional file that replaces said mesh with a winged bull, as described in Knights of the Nine.  This file will work for either v1.0 or v1.1.  Be sure to install it after the main mod to see the changes.

Known Issues:

While not an issue per se, it has come to my attention that the blessing-bestowing household shrines will count as part of the pilgrimage quest for the Knights of the Nine.  As far as I can tell, this does not disrupt the quest line in any way, but this issue has been corrected as of v1.1.

Troubleshooting:

Feel free to come to me with questions or issues and I will help as best as I can.  That said, please bear in mind that I am a novice modder and may not be able to offer much in the way of assistance.

Ideas I have for the future, but lack the expertise to implement:

-Make the shrines for more obscure cults (Cuhlecain, Reman, etc.) bestow blessings·
-Add shrines for other cults, like ancestor worship (I have no idea what they would look like)·
-Make Daedric statues bestow quest-dependent blessings, i.e. Mehrunes Dagon curses you after a certain point in the main quest or Nocturnal blesses you if you are a member of the Thieves Guild

Things I will not do:

I do not take requests.  Sorry, but I don’t.  I am a casual modder and do not have nearly enough patience or skill for additional projects.  I also do not want to create disappointment by promising something that I may fail to deliver.  I do not make resources; I only use them.
