About this mod
Adds the fabled bow Thori\'Dal, The Stars\' Fury in a small chest located in A Fighting Chance. Fully functional with incredible model, tremendous power and self-creating arrows! A teaser for a much bigger upcoming mod!
- Permissions and credits
The mighty weapon roared with arcane might. Capable of generating and firing its own magic ammunition, it was used in countless victorious battles, serving as a conduit for the Sunwell's power in defense of its creators' great nation.
History tells not wether the Sin'Dorei were cast down by their own lust for magic, or by an outside force. All that remains now are the colossal ruins of marvellous cities, haunted by the wailing souls of their downfall's witnesses on a world long forgotten. The Sunwell itself has faltered, merely a hollow circle of gold on a marble floor, saluted by the rustling of dark, red velvet curtains.
But all was not lost. All things powerful have a destiny, and the Stars' Fury's was not to join the void. After changing hands from millenia to millenia, Thori'Dal remains a conduit for the Sin'dorei's anger, and those worthy of wielding it may also smite their foes with its celestial wrath. Word goes around that an influent redguard trader named Rohssan has somehow acquired the weapon, and keeps it around her in the small, bottomless chest she retrieved deep down the sea.
WARNING : this weapon is part of a contest I am running to continue a bigger mod. If you are very skilled with NifSkope, go read the end of this description.
Crafted vertex by vertex, this might just be the most complex bow mod available on the Nexus, althought I'll leave that for you to judge. It exploits bow creation techniques to their (mind)breaking point, and allows special effects unseen before on a bow - they are not available to see in the screenshots, I want you to discover them by yourself - which needed weeks to properly set up.
Aside from quite amazing standard magic effects on impact, this beast totally does generate and auto-equip its own ammo. It also removes the arrow when you take off the bow, which seemed to make it compatible with UVII's shield/weapon on back systems - still, be careful, maybe it's just my machine that's weird. Oh! And, to balance it, you have to recharge it, otherwise it won't fire its shards of comet-y goodness.
The model is roughly inspired from the eponymous weapon in World of Warcraft : The Burning Crusade, my favorite expansion in a series of good, old memories... Glad I'm outta there thought, but the art still haunts you, you know? The music, especially, is hard to forget. Anyway, I had to get Thori'Dal out of my mind. It's done now.
CONTEST:
As the mod's name tells, tis will be a part of a much greater mod, one that dosen't simply park weapons in that boring Imperial City. I am uploading it separately because I want the attention - and the eventual help - of other modders on a particular problem. It IS fully functional, but solving this problem will allow me to achieve absolute completion, and eventually reach head-bursting satisfaction. Take note, "suggestions" will not be accepted ; I've been around that on the forums. In order to win, you must find a working way to fix the file. Do NOT attempt this unless you deem yourself very good with NifSkope, the problems are not conventional, I tell ya.
I need help finding a way to do something that nobody has ever tried to do - with success, I mean, 'cause I certainly failed. You must find a way to create a bow mesh that uses two or more NiGeoMorph-ed niTriShapes. What I mean is that you must find a way to animate (bend, since its a bow) multiple NiTriShapes. Simple copying of the standard bending NiTriShape will result in one of the parts to do nothing but twitch upon entering the menu - Yeah, that sucks.
REWARD:
The first person to come up with a working technique to create a bow with multiple animated NiTriShapes gets to decide what I'm working on next, period. It can be a weapon, or a full suit of armor, or even a custom mesh palace. Not a city, but certainly a palace. Your choice, just know I'm not that good at scripts, and I'm not an animator at all. I'm doing this because such a finding will benefit the Oblivion modding community as a whole.
Please send your ideas using the Nexus' own messaging system. This part of the text remains as long as the contest lasts.
Note: Beware, the more complex your "wish" will be, the longer it will take. But you have my word : you help me, I'll give ye what you want. Also, whatever you decide will be integrated within my next mod with proper credits given to you.
The only restrictions I have is this : Male armor models are done using Robert's Male Body, female armors are made using HGEC female body, and I'm NOT making bikini-type armors, not that I'm stuck-up, but I despise how the gaming industry makes an object of women's body.
Good luck!

VERSION HISTORY
1.2 : Downgraded the textures from 3072x3072 to 2048x2048 for players who have issues with the higher quality images. this version is available in the optional files, both in 7-Zip and OMOD format.
1.1 : Fixed problem where the arms of the bow disappeared. SHOULD this happend to you in any case, you can manually, using NifSkope, tweak the NiAlphaProperty of the bow:0 part by turning the property back to 4845, Althought it won't be necessary.
1.0 : Initial release.
=========================================
Known issues :
Some people may experience weird graphic glitches with the arms of the bow, namely parts of the bow, or parts of the character's hair, disappearing completely, like they're being cut off. Unfortunately, this is due to Oblivion's awkward way of handling transparency. Nothing much can be done about it.
Also, some people can see patches of the bow's arms become black, dull, or have weird polygon-shaped areas with weird darkened colors. Upon encountering such issues, it is recommended to drop the weapon and equip it back again, which fixes it most of the time, thanks to wtftesnexus for pointing that out.

CONFLICTS
This mod WILL conflict with my (eventual) release of Legends of Azeroth Armory.
Aside from that, mods that change A Fighting Chance's interior might give weird results, but nothing dramatic is to be expected.

It would be an honor to know that another modder has used these files to further his own goals. As long as, of course, my name appears somewhere.
Do NOT, however, use this mod or any part of it in a Skyrim mod, I'll do that myself once I can get a better dinosaur to play on...
